BORDERLANDS TO PRESENT THREE STAGE READINGS:"OUR DAD IS IN ATLANTIS", "PAPÁ ESTÁ EN LA ATLÁNTIDA" BY JAVIER MALPICA, AND "WHO WILL SPEAK FOR YOU"? BY VICTOR HUGO RASCÓN BANDA, SEPTEMBER 24, 25 & 30, 007.
September,2007- Borderlands Theater will present three staged readings as part of the first TUCSON FESTIVAL SIN FRONTERAS: “Our Dad is in Atlantis”
(English version),”Papá está en la Atlántida” (Spanish original) by Javier Malpica, and “Who Will Speak for You?” (English version) by Víctor Hugo Rascón Banda.
The first two readings are of the play “Our Dad is in Atlantis”/“Papá está en la Atlántida” by Javier Malpica, translated by Jorge Ignacio Cortinas.
The play received the prestigious Mexican award Premio Nacional de Dramaturgia “Víctor Hugo Rascón Banda”en 2005. It is a poignant border story about two young brothers who trek to “el Norte” in hopes of reuniting with their father. The English version will feature L.A. based Joe Quintero, last seen in Tucson as “Sam” in “Earthquake Chica”, and local actor Robert Encila, and it will be read September 24, 7:30 pm at the U of A Modern Languages Auditorium. The Spanish version features- along with Quintero- internationally known Mexican actor Vïctor Carpinteiro, last seen in Tucson in the critically acclaimed production of “ Deseo”, and it will be read September 25, 7:30 pm at the Modern Languages Auditorium at the U of A.

The third reading is “Who Will Speak for You?” by Víctor Hugo Rascón Banda based on the book by Arnoldo Kraus and translated by Eva Tessler. The play brings an intimate testimony of an elderly Holocaust survivor from Poland about her experiences during WWII and her efforts to rebuild her home in México. The play will be read September 30, 7:30 pm at the Historic Stone Avenue Temple Heritage Center. With Roberta Streicher and local actors.
Directed by Víctor Carpinteiro.
