LOCAL CITY COUNCIL MEMBER SPONSORS STORIES THAT SOAR! SHOW

Stories that Soar! is coming to Robison Elementary with help from Nina Trasoff

At 9:30 a.m. on Friday, December 7, 2007 Stories that Soar! performs their fourth unique show of the season at Robison Elementary School located at 2745 E 18th Street in Tucson.   You never know what each individual Stories that Soar! show will feature since the school's students creative writing provides the content for the professional actors to bring to life. Robison is no different with a show full of silly monkeys, school raps, Spice Girls super-heroes and a headless cow!

In their third year operating under the non-profit SharMoore Children's Productions, Stories that Soar! empowers children to believe in themselves by giving voice to their original words and creative ideas. The Stories that Soar! (STS) theatre program invites elementary school students to voluntarily "feed" the hungry, talking Magic Box™ their stories, promising to give them back magic! The result is both fascinating and delightful when the STS professional acting troupe selects approximately twenty stories from the hundreds submitted to be collaboratively transformed.   Using dance, acrobatics, music, comedy, drama and more, the adult performers return to the school to give the children their stories back as a culturally rich, multi-media live performance.

Approximately a month ago, the students of Robison Elementary had the pleasure of "feeding" the "hungry" Magic Boxâ„¢ their original stories and on the morning of December 7, a selection of those stories, from honest to outrageous, will be brought to life!

Most people do not consider is how each of these astonishing shows are funded.   Each of the ten local elementary schools that Stories that Soar! will serve this season rely on diverse funding sources to secure the $4,000 each show takes to produce.   Last year, local Ward 6 City Council member Nina Trasoff recognized the benefits of Stories that Soar! and provided matching grants for two Ward 6 schools. After last year's great response, she is helping yet again by targeting three schools: Robison, J.B. Wright and Sam Hughes.

Come see how the magic of Stories that Soar! brings the words of Robison students to life next Friday, December 7 at Robison Elementary at 9:30 a.m.  Visitors are welcome and encouraged to come see this show as long as they check in at the office.
