Auditions
Barbea Williams Performing Company will hold auditions for our upcoming “Folktales with Friends ” series offering story dance and other tales from the Old Mali Empire, South America, the Caribbean, South Africa, “One Woman to Another Tales/Tells/Tails”, “Tellin’ Our Own Tales” y mas..…. Barbea Williams will direct and Anton Smith of the Human Project will choreograph the opening series of story dances. Please bring a headshot and resume. The audition will consist of a dance routine, cold reading from the script, and character development improvisation exercises. Auditions are held on Sunday, October 25th and Wednesday, October 28th at 5:30pm, please call for an appointment at the Dunbar Culture Center, 325 W. 2nd Street. Auditions for Actors, Dancers, Drummers, Technicians, Storyteller/Narrator, Boy, Miscellaneous Animal and Nature Characters – Sun, Sea, Rainbow, etc…
Story Teller/Narrator: African descent, strong vocals, elder look, able to play other characters.
Boy: African descent, youthful, athletic abilities, strong vocals.
Miscellaneous Animals and Nature Characters: some vocals, strong characters and dance/movement abilities.
Dancers and Drummers: West African, Creative Movement/Sound.
Technicians: Costume, Lighting, Properties and Sound Designers and Crew needed.
Rehearsals start Wednesday, November 4th for “The Boy and the Tree of the Animals” and other folktales. Show Dates: Friday through Sunday, December 11th to December 20th, show times vary, matinee and evening shows.
