LIVE THEATRE WORKSHOP - 5317 E. Speedway | Tucson, AZ 85712

Located on the North side of Speedway between Rosemont and Craycroft

Produced by Special Arrangement with Samuel French, Inc.

DON’T DRESS FOR DINNER is a frenetic case of mistaken identity with more twists than a corkscrew. When Jacqueline decides to visit her mother for a few days, her husband Bernard sees an opportunity for a cozy weekend with his new mistress. His bachelor pal Robert calls to announce his return from Hong Kong, so Bernard invites him along as his alibi, also hiring a Cordon Bleu-level cook to cater a delicious dinner. But when Jacqueline realizes Robert is coming for a visit everything changes, and the high speed farce begins! One impossible situation leads to another as the hapless friend Robert finds himself the target of both amorous attention and wrathful vengeance, while Bernard tries desperately to salvage a scrap of illicit bliss from the wreckage of a weekend.

“Hurtling along at the speed of light, [this] breathtaking farce is a near faultless piece of theatrical invention.”

Join us for interactive theater at its most original!

Play-in-a-Day is an annual event with the crazy premise that a half-dozen plays can be written, cast, rehearsed, and performed -- all in less than twenty-four hours.  Audience participation, sleep-deprived playwrights, and cash prizes are all part of this fun, two-night festival.

All performances are script-in-hand, staged readings.  Old Pueblo Playwrights (OPP) is a non-profit organization dedicated to encouraging the creation of new dramatic works by Arizona authors.

===============================================================

HOW IT ALL WORKS:

Friday evening, 7:30 pm --  an evening of Showcase Plays

Enjoy performances of three short plays written by OPP’s own Jack FrakesWatch as twelve playwrights are randomly paired for a night of collaboration.  Join fellow audience members in writing a line of dialog and selecting three props -- all of which must then be written into each of the six overnight plays.

Friday night and into the morning --

Each pair of playwrights create a 10-minute play.  Scripts are due at dawn.

Saturday morning --

Directors arrive and actors are chosen.  They spend all day rehearsing until…

Saturday evening, 7:30 pm --  an evening of World Premiere Plays

Six world-premiere plays appear on the Cabaret stage for the audience’s pleasure and amusement.   Two cash prizes are awarded:  An Audience Choice is voted on; plus a Critic’s Prize is chosen by a panel of judges from Tucson’s theater community.

Tucson: Discount on Comedy Improv at The Studio for Actors

From: The Studio for Actors [mailto:acting-courses@the-studio-for-actors.com]
Sent: Thursday, October 28, 2010 7:06 AM
Subject: Announcement: Discount on Comedy Improv at The Studio for Actors

The Studio for Actors is offering a "Taste of Improv Class."  Here's how it works.  Just come on one Wednesday night from 6:30-8:00pm for only $20.  This class is normally $35, but for the evenings of November 3rd or November 10th, you can attend for $20 for one class only, and see how much you love studying improv at the Studio.  So, if you've always wondered (or if you've never wondered) if you would enjoy comedy improv, this is your chance to check it out.  You must call (520) 881-2363 by November 2nd.  [Limit one $20 class per person.  This offer is available only to new comedy improv students who have not taken comedy improv at The Studio before.]

Comedy Improvisation - What a wonderful class to get you to think fast, think on your feet, loosen up your body, and how you move.  In this class, you're also taught dialects.  You don't have to be a "funny person" to do really well in this class, to have a fantastic time, and to learn a great deal.  Comedy improv isn’t half as hard as it looks when you learn it from a former Saturday Night Live cast member.  Anna gives you the keys: formats, dialects, and structure.  Come play, have a ball, and enjoy discovering how funny you can be.  Also, for acting students, studying comedy improv loosens up the body, helps you think fast on your feet, introduces dialects, and sharpens your timing.

4 consecutive Wednesday nights
6:30pm-8:30pm
Start on any Wednesday (but you must call first to sign up).
$35 per week
(If you have to miss one of them, you just pay for it and then take class 5 free.)

To find out more or to sign up, call Anna Risley at (520) 881-2363.

Also being offered:
Audition Technique
Radio/TV Voiceover Seminar

Each of these classes is taught by Anna Risley at her Studio (The Studio for Actors), located on 6th Street, just off 4th Avenue.  Anna has 30 years of experience in film, television, voiceover, and stage acting.   To check out her resume, please visit http://www.the-studio-for-actors.com , or call her at (520) 881-2363 to sign up.

LIVE THEATRE WORKSHOP - 5317 E. Speedway | Tucson, AZ 85712

Located on the North side of Speedway between Rosemont and Craycroft

Produced by Special Arrangement with Dramatists Play Service, Inc.

This production contains strong adult language and content. No one under 16 admitted.

Two brothers, Jeff and George, run The Ladder Store, which is actually a front for their business in black-market hearts. In the world of RAG AND BONE, hearts are bought and sold for people who can't feel enough. The play begins when George steals the heart of a poet. The play then follows the poet with no heart; a hooker with a heart of gold; T-Bone, her pimp who feels too damn much; and the Millionaire, who eventually receives the poet's heart and sees a whole different world. Jeff and George recently lost their mother, but they put her heart into George's body, and all of a sudden he's wearing a dress, drinking martinis and cooking pot roasts. An epic black comedy about the limits of feeling, and the consequences of either feeling nothing or too damn much.

"Haidle is an engaging writer who creates startling theatrical conceits, intriguing themes and offbeat characters…his nonrealistic style is bold and imaginative…"
