Love Letters is a play by A. R. Gurney that was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. The play centers on two characters, Andrew Makepeace Ladd III and Melissa Gardner. During the course of the play, Andrew and Melissa read the notes, letters and cards they have written to each other over the course of 50 years. The letters provide a heartfelt account of their hopes and ambitions, dreams and disappointments, and victories and defeats that have passed between them throughout their two very different lives. The characters are portrayed by Al and Julia Saterbak, who met on stage playing husband and wife.
