"On the Rocks"
Student production
Short film (7 minutes)
Summary: A young man, facing a turbulent end to his long-term relationship, interacts with an older couple that are civilly, and even with a dash of humor, signing their divorce papers at a bar. The encounter clarifies for the young man his own relationship, and gives him a new perspective on endings.
Character Descriptions:
John- Man in his late 20s. Fresh out of college, John is in the middle of a rough patch with his girlfriend and facing the possible end to their relationship. Although prone to short bursts of anger, as seen when arguing with his girlfriend over the phone, John tries to also be thoughtful and understanding.
Divorced Man- Man in his 30s. He and his wife have come to the bar to file their divorce papers and end their relationship amicably. World weary, but is able to see the little humors in life.
Divorced Woman- Woman in her 30s. Both she and her husband have decided to end their relationship on good terms. Can be a little snippy with her husband, but, nevertheless, loves him enough to go through the separation maturely.
Dave- A man in his 50s. He's tended bars his entire life, and there aren't many things that he hasn't seen. Dave's friendly attitude puts his customers at ease. John is a regular with Dave; the two are familiar with one another.
