Tucson: Feature Film Casting Call for "Heathen Stevens"

Sent: Friday, June 30, 2006 7:22 PM
Subject: (talent gigs) Casting Call for "Heathen Stevens" (Tucson, AZ)

CASTING CALL: Tucson, AZ

Casting for feature film, "Heathen Stevens." Director will hopefully submit in time for this year's Sundance Film Festival. Production will hopefully take place between the first and second week in August, in Tucson, Arizona. All positions are NON-PAID, however, a copy of the completed DVD will be provided. "Heathen Stevens" is a character drama hence actors with acting experience are preferred. Actors without acting experience will still be considered. All decisions will be based on auditions, interest and commitment.

Logline: A Christian fundamentalist family agrees to participate on a reality television show that gives them thirty days to attempt to convert an Atheist, a Jew, and a Buddhist, into Born Again Christians.

Actors with idiosyncratic looks are especially encouraged for the roles of the "Stevens." However all individuals will be considered. The following roles are available.

Major roles:

Bernardo the Buddhist (Steven #1) - Hispanic, Male, early 20's. Character tends to have an innocent and curious nature, nonchalant in conversation. Must have some sort of presence. Opposite character of Steven #2, #3.

Adam the Atheist (Steven #2)- Caucasian, Male, early 20's. A rebel with out a cause, kind of character. Roguish personality. Anti-heroish demeanor (think Nicholson in Cuckoo's Nest). Twinkle in the eye.

Jeff the Jew (Steven #3)- Caucasian, Male, early 20's. Compliment to Adam the Atheist. Sarcastic, pessimistic, realistic, character especially enjoys questioning and correcting people.

Jedediah the Christian- Caucasian or African American, Male, 40's. Must have presence, but especially strong voice. Distinct regional accent (type unsure) preferred however, will make exceptions to distinct and powerful voice. Despite voice, an introverted character.

Martha the Christian- Caucasian or African American, Female, 40's. Compliment to Jedediah (wife). More extroverted character, with also a distinct voice.

James the Chrisian- Caucasian or African American, Male, 18-23. Son of Jedediah, Martha. Extremely introverted character. Often melancholy.

Old Producer, Male, 40's, Young Producer- Male, 30's- Ethnicity or age extremely variable. Will be cast based on chemistry with one another. Regardless think Hollywood. Suits.

Minor roles:

Host: Male or Female, type of individual that could be seen on television hosting a show (for the script it's the season finale).

If interested for an audition or more information, please e-mail an inquiry with resume (experience: informal or formal) headshot or some sort of picture (if available). Thank you for your time.

Tucson: Casting Call - Actresses Needed For Spectacular Horror Short

Dear TTA List Members,

I not have investigated the legitimacy of these auditions. Please proceed with caution and ask lots of questions. Never pay a fee to audition.

From: auditions@moviesagogo.com
Sent: Sunday, June 25, 2006 9:30 AM
Subject: (talent gigs) Actresses Neede d For Spectacular Horror Short. (Tucson)

PLEASE READ ALL OF THIS BEFORE REPLYING.

This short MAY HAVE some inadvertent T&A/frontal nudity in it. The story involves five young women who have a sleep-over to help one get through an ugly break-up. All wear various sleepware such as teddies, cami's/short-shorts, sheer nightshirts, sheer t-shirts, nightgowns, etc. No clothing is taken off during the film. Nudity may occur when the actresses flee from, wrestle with, fight the "monster" who attacks them. THERE IS NO INTENTIONAL NUDITY and NO SEX. There are five co-lead roles for women who can play 18-24. Previous acting experience preferred. Fight experience or training given preference. Must be in good shape and capable of physical activity. No preference to race or nationality. Talented and experienced people will shine through. The short is a promo for a feature film to showcase the story and actors to secure funding for the feature. Location is in north Tucson. Because of the potential for brief nudity, the set will be closed and only a skeleton crew used. Should we produce a micro-budget feature for direct-to-video distribution, actresses who "shine" in the short will have the inside track to portray the same roles in the feature, although we can't guarantee it. As in anything, it depends on your performance. The short is deferred pay but if the feature is produced, it will be a paid gig. If you are looking for a chance to break into bigger roles, add a great short performance to your reel or something else to boost your career, this may be the opportunity. Writer/director/producers are professional filmmakers with many years of experience in every aspect of cinema. The story is a kick-ass "SCREAM" type of project with fun stuff for every role. Auditions scheduled this week and next. Shooting is tentatively scheduled for early August. Please send head-shot/filmography to auditions@moviesagogo.com. We will be back to the actresses we want to see in (fully-clothed) auditions. We look forward to working with you.

Alma Synposis
Alma is 7-minute film featuring a teenage Latina,
growing up in
Southern Arizona unaware that she's not an U.S.
citizen.

ALMA CAST BREAKDOWN

1. ALMA  at least 18 years old to play younger;
MEXICAN but NO ACCENT
OR ONLY SLIGHT ACCENT. Alma dresses modestly and
doesnt wear make-up.
Shes a first generation Mexican caught between
American and Mexican
cultures. Raised by traditional Mexican parents,
shes used to obeying
their rules. But Almas wild friend Lupita is set on
showing Alma how
to break the rules. Influenced by Lupita, Alma stays
out past her
curfew and attempts to score beer at a convenience
store. After their
plan fails and Alma ends up drinking a large amount
of soda, she
witnesses an undocumented worker, someone she knows,
being arrested.
Fearing for her parents safety -- for they too are
undocumented-- Alma
runs home only to find herself locked out for
breaking curfew. Sick
from her run, drinking 5 sodas, and fearing her
parents arrest, Alma
vomits. Her parents think shes drunk and make her
sleep on the porch.
Alma accepts her punishment without protest,
relieved that her parents
are safe.
LEAD

2. LUPITA  at least 18 years old to play younger;
LATINA, big hair,
thick eye liner, tight low cut jeans and high heels.
Lupita is a
culturally assimilated third generation Latina, who
is trying to play
up her Latin roots. Shes sassy, has a flair for
drama, and likes to
have a good time. She convinces her friend Alma to
join her in
sweet-talking some men into buying them beers at a
convenience store.
When Alma gets cold feet, the girls end up with 6
giant sodas instead.
Alma, who has had her eye on Lupitas red high
heels, proposes a bet.
Lupita agrees to it: if Alma drinks the remaining

Tucson: Beowulf Alley Theatre audition African-American male

From: theatre@beowulfalley.org [mailto:theatre@beowulfalley.org]
Sent: Wednesday, June 21, 2006 1:21 PM
Subject: For TTA Listing

Beowulf Alley Theatre Company, Tucson’s Daring and Distinctive theatre, is looking for an African-American male actor, late 20’s to 30’s, to play the part of Christopher in Blue/Orange by Joe Penhall.

The show will open September 16th and run through October 8th, Thursdays – Sundays.

Rehearsals will begin early August.  A stipend will be paid.

For more information or to schedule and audition, please e-mail theatre@beowulfalley.org or call (520) 622-4460.

About the Play:

Comedy/Drama, Full Length

THE STORY: In a London psychiatric hospital, an enigmatic patient claims to be the son of an African dictator—a story that becomes unnervingly plausible. BLUE/ORANGE is an incendiary tale of race, madness and a Darwinian power struggle at the heart of a dying National Health Service.

Winner of the Olivier Award for Best New Play. "…a ferocious comedy [with] brawny characters, not to mention a conflict that justifies some high-powered verbal brutality." —NY Times. "I came out of Joe Penhall's new play in a state of hot, black excitement: emotional, intellectual, moral excitement. How many plays can claim that much?" —Sunday Times (London). "Exuberant…Penhall has the gift of making serious points in a comic manner and of conveying moral indignation without preaching…Stinging satire." —Guardian (London). "Provocative, blackly funny…[and] taut with thought-provoking ambiguity." —Independent (London).

TALKING BACK TO THE BIG SCREEN:
VIDEOKE RETURNS TO
THE LOFT CINEMA!
Become a star for the night when VIDEOKE returns to The Loft Cinema! You thought it was dead, but its back from the grave and ready to party! On Wednesday, June 21st at 9:00 p.m., after a months-long hiatus, this popular cinematic happening returns to The Loft with a new host, new clips and a new attitude! Join new host Harold Garland for a truly unique, and sometimes truly strange, movie event. Admission is free with a suggested donation of $3 (to benefit the non-profit Loft Cinema), and beer and wine are available for sale at the concession stand, so what have you got to lose?

What is Videoke, you ask? Simply put, it’s karaoke with movies! Here’s how it works: We play a video clip from one of your favorite movies or television shows on the screen behind you, and you get to act it out on stage with the subtitled dialogue provided on a monitor in front of you. What you do from there is up to you. Some people get on stage and channel the professional actor within or do a dead on impression of the character on the screen. Others take command of the microphone and create their own original dialogue for the scene - which can be either really funny or really painful. The key is for performers to give it their all, no matter what. Holding back is for wimps, so let loose with all you’ve got, and the audience will happily go along for the ride.

To prepare yourself for the thrilling experience that is Videoke, preview some of the available clips at www.videoke.org.

ABOUT

BLAKE

SNYDER

In his 20-year career as a screenwriter and producer, Blake Snyder has sold dozens of scripts, including co-writing Blank Check, which became a hit for Disney, and Nuclear Family for Steven Spielberg — both million-dollar sales. Named “one of Hollywood’s most successful spec screenwriters,” Blake continues to write and sell scripts, but now devotes much of his time to helping other writers achieve the kind of success he’s experienced.

His book, Save the Cat! The Last Book on Screenwriting You’ll Ever Need, was published in May, 2005, and quickly became the #2 best-selling how-to on Amazon. On the market for less than a year, it is currently in its fourth printing and has prompted "standing room only" seminars by Blake in Los Angeles, Chicago, New York, and London. The book has also become the "secret weapon" of many development executives, managers, and producers for its precise, easy, and honest appraisal of what it takes to write and develop stories that resonate and scripts that sell.

Blake is on the faculty of Chapman University in Los Angeles and is a member of the MFA Graduate Faculty of David Lyman's Film Workshop in Rockport, Maine. His book is also the basis of screenwriting classes at Cornell, the New School, and many major universities. Apparently it is not quite the last book on screenwriting you will ever need, as Blake is currently writing the sequel, Save the Cat! Goes to the Movies, a dissection of 50 top Hollywood and independent films.

Blake has a B.A. in English from Georgetown University and lives in Beverly Hills, California.
