Casting for the staged reading of CATO, A TRAGEDY by Joseph Addison

 

We are looking for several actors for this production, which will be at 5PM on Sunday March 25 with 2-3 rehearsals beforehand. This production is a benefit for the Freedom Center at the UofA http://freedomcenter.arizona.edu/ . It is being produced by Robert Anthony Peters http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1592192/ who has worked with many theaters in Tucson including the Rogue, Beowulf, Chicken Lipps, and currently, Winding Road on their production of WHO’S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF. Pay is “to be determined” at this point as well as Equity status. At this point we are actively seeking additional funds to be able to provide a stipend, as well as meet the conditions to work with members of AEA.

 

Open call auditions will be held this Saturday from 10am – 2pm at the Drama Building Room 266 at the University of Arizona 1025 N Olive Rd Tucson, AZ 85721-0003. Parking is available on the North side of Speedway at Park Avenue in the garage for no charge on weekends.

The following is a breakdown of characters:

CATO (male, Caucasian, age 45-65) Truly the noblest Roman of them all. Impeccable character and Stoic.

LUCIUS (male, Caucasian, age 45-65) Honorable man and friend to Cato.

SEMPRONIUS (male, Caucasian, age 30-40) Duplicitous, schemer who seeks to betrary Cato.

JUBA (male, Black, Arabic, or Hispanic, age 20-30) Honorable Prince of the Numidians. Idolizes Cato and in love with his daughter.

SYPHAX (male, Black, Arabic, or Hispanic, age 35-65) Sempronius’ counterpart to Juba.

PORTIUS (male, Caucasian, age 20-30) Son of Cato, very honorable as well, makes great sacrifices for his brother and father

MARCUS (male, Caucasian, age 20-30) Son of Cato, rashly ruled by his passions and love for Lucia.

DECIUS (male, Caucasian, age 20-40) Soldier of Caesar who seeks to negotiate with Cato.

MARCIA (female, Caucasian, 20-30) Honorable daughter of Cato

LUCIA (female, Caucasian, 20-30) Honorable daughter of Lucius
