WICKED

BY STEPHEN SCHWARTZ AND WINNIE HOLZMAN

BASED ON THE NOVEL BY GREGORY MAGUIRE

TUCSON – After breaking box office records and selling out in record time in 2011, WICKED, Broadway’s biggest blockbuster, will return to Tucson, March 20-April 7, 2013.  Ticket sales for the return engagement at the Tucson Music Hall will be announced at a later date.

Based on the best-selling 1995 novel by Gregory Maguire, WICKED, winner of 35 major awards, including a Grammy® and three Tony® Awards, is the untold story of the witches of Oz.  It is produced by Marc Platt, Universal Pictures, The Araca Group, Jon B. Platt and David Stone.

“I’m very pleased that we have secured a return of WICKED for Tucson audiences.  It will be an absolute pleasure watching sold out audiences gasp with excitement during ‘Defying Gravity’ again,” said Broadway in Tucson General Manager, Lendre Kearns. “Bringing the show to the Tucson Music Hall will be a great asset for downtown businesses with more than 50,000 people enjoying a night out. It will also be a boon to lodging establishments as the show is well known for attracting fans from far and wide,” Kearns added.

Long before Dorothy drops in, two other girls meet in the Land of Oz.  One – born with emerald-green skin – is smart, fiery and misunderstood.  The other is beautiful, ambitious and very popular.  WICKED tells the story of their remarkable odyssey, and how these two unlikely friends grow to become the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good.

Tickets for WICKED will be available to current season ticket holders of Broadway in Tucson beginning in late March/early April.  Become a season ticket holder today to Broadway in Tucson and be eligible to renew with other season ticket holders and secure your WICKED tickets before the general public.  Sales for groups of 20+ will begin in early Spring.  Individual ticket sales will be announced at a later date.

The remaining events in the 2012/2013 season will be announced in the coming weeks.  Stay tuned to www.broadwayintucson.com for more information!

*As a note to all calendar listing editors, the title of the show is WICKED (not WICKED: A New Musical or WICKED, the untold story of the witches of Oz).
