The Truth About Blayds

By A. A. Milne

Continues to September 16th

The Truth About Blayds continues at The Comedy Playhouse through September 16thThe Truth About Blayds was written by A. A. Milne who went on to author Winnie th Pooh.  At the time, A. A. Milne, J. M. Barrie, of Peter Pan fame, and G. B. Shaw were considered the three leading British playwrights.  They all knew each other, and The Truth About Blayds may be Milne's gentle way of poking fun at Shaw.

Here's the story. Oliver Blayds, England's foremost poet, is celebrating his ninetieth birthday. His family and colleagues have gathered to honor him.   After the celebration, Oliver tells his younger daughter, Isobel, a secret.  It is the secret of his poetry; the secret of his success; the secret of his life.  Isobel is amazed; Isobel is astonished.  The secret will change literature; the secret will change the future; the secret will change everything.  The secret is The Truth About Blayds.

Watch Comedy Playhouse favorites Cristin Phibbs, Drew Kallen, Frank Solis, Tina Swope, Callie Hutchinson and Bruce Bieszki and learn The Truth About Blayds.

The Truth About Blayds runs through September 16th .   Performances will be Friday and Saturday evenings at 7:30pm and Sunday afternoons at 3:00pm.   Admission is $18.00 with discounts available for seniors and students.

Coming in October…

The Comedy Genius

Of O. Henry II

October 5 – October 13

The Comedy Playhouse will present a new collection of the works of O. Henry October 5th through October 13th.

  O. Henry (real name William Sydney Porter) was born in North Carolina in 1862.  He tried many professions including pharmacist, ranch hand, draftsman, clerk and bank teller.  During his stint as bank teller, through carelessness or embezzlement, money was found to be missing.  The bank auditor discovered the shortage, and O. Henry lost his job.  Eventually, he was indicted, put on trial, and sent to prison.  It was in prison, that he wrote and published his first stories.  The pen name was essential, as no respectable magazine would consider publishing the work of a convict.
