1.  Philip Sedgwick Awarded IFA Writer of the Year.  Independent Film Arizona has given its 2014 Best Writer Award to celebrated screenwriter Philip Sedgwick.  Phil has written more than forty screenplays, including most recently, the highly acclaimed Mirage at Zabul Province.  The IFA Best Writer Award will be presented at IFA's Tuesday, September 2 Meeting, at 7:00 PM at the Auld Dubliner, 800 University in Tucson.  Phil will be presenting his Ten Tips for a Successful Screenwriter at the September 2 Meeting.

2. Arizona Underground Film Festival.  The 7th Annual Arizona Underground Film Festival will present from September 19 to September 27.  It is still accepting submissions and encourages submissions from Southern Arizona filmmakers.  To submit or for more information  go to their website at azuff.org

3.  September 5 -- First Friday at the Loft.  This Friday (September 5) is the first friday of the month so at 9:00 PM Max Cannon will be hosting First Friday at the Loft (3233 East Speedway in Tucson).  Bring in your short (less than 15 minutes) during the day on Friday and see if it gets some love (and a $200 cash prize) or if it gets the feared gong.  It cost nothing to submit a film and all films play for at least three minutes.

4.  IFA's September Actors Meeting.  Independent Film Arizona meets on the first Tuesday of every month. The September Meeting is on Tuesday, September 2, at 7:00 PM at the Auld Dubliner, 800 East University, in Tucson.  The meeting will feature a panel of experienced actors explaining how to succeed as a film actor in Southern Arizona as well as a professional make up demonstration.  A great meeting for actors to develop skills and a great meeting for the production side of the game to meet some great new and some great experienced actors.  All IFA meetings are free and open to all.

5.  James Gandolfini.  Ya Ya Perez (Independent Film Arizona's resident film critic) would like to recommend Romance and Cigarettes.  This is a 2005 release that went straight to DVD, despite the fact that it was directed by John Turturro and starred James Gandolfini and Kate Winslet.   This film is both a relationship drama and it is a musical.  If you want Tony Soprano to sing to you -- check out Romance and Cigarettes.  It's lots of fun.
