Helaine Levy To Receive Georgy Award from Arizona Theatre Company at 2014 Gala, Sept. 27








Tony Award-Winner Brian Stokes Mitchell Will Entertain at Gala 2014: Backstage Pass


            TUCSON, Ariz. (Aug. 29, 2014):  Helaine Levy, Executive Director of the Diamond Family Philanthropies, will receive the Georgy Award from Arizona Theatre Company in recognition of the foundation's consistent support of ATC, her personal ongoing support of Tucson's not-for-profit community and her role in establishing the Non-Profit Loan Fund that assists not-for-profits with cash flow.

            The Award will be presented at Gala 2014: Backstage Pass on Saturday, Sept. 27 from 5-11 p.m. at the Temple of Music and Art, 330 S. Scott Ave.  The event includes a live auction, dinner and entertainment by Tony Award-winner Brian Stokes Mitchell.

            Individual tickets are $200 each and tables of ten can be purchased for $2000.  Gala sponsorships are available.

            The Diamond Family Philanthropies' primary focus is to provide philanthropic support to a variety of Tucson's not-for-profit organizations.  Before being named executive director, Levy was President and part-owner of western theme park and movie studio Old Tucson Studios where she began her tenure in the marketing department.

            She is currently on the Board of Directors of Tucson Values Teachers, University of Arizona Foundation and Social Venture Partners Greater Tucson, which she co-founded.  She also chairs the Women's Foundation of Southern Arizona Advisory Council and is a member of Southern Arizona Grantmakers and Women Investors of Tucson, which she also co-founded.

            Past Board involvement includes Tucson Jewish Community Center, Arizona Motion Picture and Television Advisory Board, International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions, KUAT TV/Radio; Metropolitan Tucson Convention and Visitor's Bureau and Jewish Federation of Southern Arizona.  She also has chaired and served on numerous business and civic committees.

            Brian Stokes Mitchell has been dubbed "The Last Leading Man" by The New York Times for his rich and varied career on Broadway, television and film along with appearances in the great American concert halls.

            In demand by some of the country's finest conductors and orchestras, he has performed with Michael Tilson Thomas and the San Francisco Symphony at Carnegie Hall, at The Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. under the baton of the late Marvin Hamlisch, and sung jazz standards with Maestro John Williams at Disney Hall and with the Boston Pops, among other appearances.  His Broadway career includes performances in "Man of La Mancha," earning a Tony nomination and Helen Hayes Award; "Kiss Me Kate," resulting in Tony, Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Awards; "Ragtime;" "Kiss of the Spider Woman;" "Jelly's Last Jam;" and David Merrick's "Oh, Kay!" and "Mail," which earned him a Theatre World Award for outstanding Broadway Debut.

            His recordings on CD have generated rave reviews and he continues touring across the country.
