After Orlando, an International Theatre Action

in Response to Pulse Massacre

AN INTERNATIONAL THEATRE ACTION IN RESPONSE TO THE PULSE NIGHTCLUB SHOOTING

TUCSON, AZ — Ensemble members of the Imaginary Theatre of the University of Arizona Theatre Department will present a staged-reading of After Orlando, an international theatre action, in conjunction with Missing Bolts Productions and NoPassport Theatre Alliance & Press. Artistic Directors Blair Baker and Zac Kline (Missing Bolts Productions) and founder Caridad Svich (NoPassport) invited national and international theatremakers to write three-minute plays in response to recent tragic events and a growing, devastating history of gun violence. Plays from After Orlando are being performed nationally and internationally. The 2016 shooting left 49 people dead and 53 wounded inside Pulse, a gay night club in Orlando, Florida, on "Latin Night." It was the deadliest mass shooting by a single shooter and the deadliest incident of violence against LGBT people in the history of the United States.

On December 5th, UA Theatre students present their curation of 17 plays from After Orlando. Playwrights include: E.M. Lewis, Jeff McMahon, Jordan Tannahil, Arturo Sonia, Georgina Escobar, Matthew Paul Olmos, Deborah Zoe Laufer, Chiori Miyagawa, Neil LaBute, Cecilia Copeland, Rohina Malik, Ken Urban, Korde Tuttle, Jennifer Maisel, Mando Alvarado, Anders Lustgarten, and Elaine Romero.

Professor Elaine Romero, playwright and dramaturg, also teaches the Generative Dramaturgy Course at the UA. The students who serve as dramaturgs, directors, and actors include Anna Jennings, Allie Knuth, Vanisha Pierce, Alex Ross, Fly Steffens, Alex Totillo, Angelina Valencia, and Claire Zhuang.
