Tucson: Access Tucson Alert - UPDATE

 Dear Friends:

City Manager Mike Letcher has made budget recommendations to the Tucson
Mayor and Council and there will be a public hearing on the FY 2010 budget
this coming Tuesday, April 28th at about 6:00 p.m. at the Tucson Convention
Center. The recommendation for Access Tucson funding is a reduction of
$179,581 which is a 20% cut from this year's funding, over a 30% cut from
last year's funding. We hope that some of you may attend the public
hearing to show support for Access Tucson.

We do not think Access Tucson is being treated fairly in this budget
compared to other organizations funded by the City and in particular
because the funding source (the cable television license fees paid by
Tucson Cox subscribers) has not decreased at all in the last two years. A
cut of this magnitude will mean severe cuts in services to our members as
well as the groups and organizations we serve.

We hope that you will let the Mayor and Council know how you feel about
this by attending the public hearing Tuesday and if you have not already
done so, by emailing the Mayor and Council at mailto:mcweb@tucsonaz.gov.

ALSO -- don't forget to come see Amy Goodman, host of Democracy Now! She
will speak and sign her new book at the Tucson Convention Center ballroom
on Sunday, April 26th at 6:00 p.m. Tickets still on sale at Access Tucson
and KXCI and at the door for $10. This is a fundraiser for KXCI and Access
Tucson. More information at www.accesstucson.org.

See you Sunday at Amy Goodman and Tuesday at the public hearing!
