Arizona Onstage Productions presents:

GUTENBERG!  THE MUSICAL!

By Scott Brown and Anthony King

In this two-man musical spoof of the mega-blockbuster Broadway genre, a pair of aspiring playwrights perform a backer’s audition for their new project – a big, splashy musical about printing press inventor Johann Gutenberg. With an unending supply of enthusiasm, Bud and Doug sing all of the songs and play all of the parts (girls, boys, rodents) in their crass historical epic, with the hope that one of the producers in attendance will give them a Broadway Contract – fulfilling their ill-advised dreams. Fans of Monty Python, Mel Brooks and Waiting for Guffman will have a field day. 90 minutes with an intermission.

A hit both in London and Off–Broadway, Gutenberg!  The Musical! received many awards and nominations, including the Lucille Lortel Award for Outstanding Musical and the 2007 Outer Critics Circle Award for Outstanding New Off-Broadway Musical.

Featuring Jacob Brown and Jay C. Cotner, directed by Annette Hillman (all three from the smash hit comedy JEWTOPIA). Music Direction by Khris Dodge.

Off-Broadway reviews:

“Hysterically funny!  Writers Anthony King and Scott Brown produced a uproarious script – funnier than [title of show]” – Associated Press

“Riotously funny” - Time Out New York

“Brilliant” – New York Magazine

“Inspired, flawlessly calibrated and smart.  A thoroughly winning, dead-on musical comedy.” – The New York Sun

LONDON REVIEWS:

“Hilarious…they deliciously prick the overblown pretensions of many modern musicals.” – Sunday Express

“FIVE STARS!  Contains more wit and intelligence than three decades of megashows.” – The London Times

“Utterly brilliant . . . the funniest and cleverest spoof I’ve come across in years . . . Mel Brooks couldn’t have done it better.” – Clive Davis
