The Comedy Genius
Of O. Henry II
Opens October 5th
The Comedy Playhouse will present another collection of the works of O. Henry October 5th through October 13th.
Beloved as a short story writer, O. Henry has been popular with readers for over 110 years. His stories usually had an unexpected twist at the end. Sometimes the twist was poignant: sometimes the twist was humorous. But always, the twist was entertaining.
O. Henry (real name William Sydney Porter) was born in North Carolina in 1862. He tried many professions including pharmacist, ranch hand, draftsman, clerk and bank teller. During his stint as bank teller, through carelessness or embezzlement, money was found to be missing. The bank auditor discovered the shortage, and O. Henry lost his job. Eventually, he was indicted, put on trial, and sent to prison. It was in prison, that he wrote and published his first stories. The pen name was essential, as no respectable magazine would consider publishing the work of a convict.
The public fell in love with his stories and that love affair continues to this day.
Join Nell Summers, Tony Eckstat, Drew Kellan and Bruce Bieszki as they bring the stories on O. Henry to life in The Comedy Genius of O. Henry II.
The Comedy Genius of O. Henry II runs October 5th through October 13th. Performances will be Friday and Saturday evenings at 7:30pm and Sunday afternoons at 3:00pm. (Only ONE Matinee) Admission is $12.00 with discounts available for seniors and students.
The Comedy Playhouse is located at 3620 N. 1st Avenue at the northeast corner of 1st Avenue and Prince Road. The Comedy Playhouse has lit, adjacent parking. The Comedy Genius of O. Henry II is appropriate for ages eight and up.

Also Coming in October…
Chilling Mysteries of
Edgar Allen Poe II
Opens October 19th
The Comedy Playhouse will present its Halloween show, Chilling Mysteries of Edgar Allen Poe II. Chilling Mysteries of Edgar Allen Poe II will open Friday October 19th. The show will consist of five of Poe's classic stories dramatized in five different ways. The Pit and The Pendulum, The Cask of Amontillado, and The Tell-Tale Heart, are among the stories that will be presented. Also included will be a selection of Poe's poetry.
Edgar Allen Poe (1809-1849) considered himself, foremost, to be a literary critic. However, history has determined that his contributions to other kinds of literature may indeed have been more important. Poe was influential in creating the concept of the "short story." Poe is also credited with the invention of the detective story for his The Murders at the Rue Morgue. Poe's detective Auguste Dupin, also appears in Poe's other detective stories The Mystery of Marie Roget and The Purloined Letter. In addition, Poe dabbled in science fiction with The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym of Nantucket, which tells the tale of an adventure in the South Pole region.
Still, Poe is held in highest regard for his suspense and mystery stories.
Join Drew Kallen, Colin Roberts, Paul Hammack, Cristin Phibbs and Bruce Bieszki as The Comedy Playhouse presents Chilling Mysteries of Edgar Allen Poe II. Admission is $18, with discounts available. Chilling Mysteries of Edgar Allen Poe II plays October 19th to October 28th. Performances will be Friday and Saturday evenings at 7:30pm and Sunday afternoons at 3:00pm.

And in November…
The Lighter Side
Of Chekhov
November 2nd – November 24th
Do you think Anton Chekhov wrote only boring depressing stuff? Do you think Anton Chekhov didn't write anything funny? Do you think Anton Chekhov was a stuffed shirt?
Well, think again!!!
Although Anton Chekhov is known best for his full length plays today, the plays were only a small part of his literary output. Chekhov wrote over eight hundred short stories. He was a keen observer of human nature and his short stories covered the full range of human emotion.
Trained as a doctor, Chekhov said "medicine is my wife, but literature is my mistress. Sometimes I get tired of one and turn to the other, but I can't live without either."
The Lighter Side of Chekhov will present three of the most uproarious farces ever written for the stage.
Be there when Nell Summers, Denise Blum, John McRostie, Paul Hammack, Frank Solis and Bruce Bieszki present The Lighter Side of Chekhov at The Comedy Playhouse. Admission is $18, with discounts available. The Lighter Side of Chekhov plays November 2nd to November 24th. Performances will be Friday and Saturday evenings at 7:30pm and Sunday afternoons at 3:00pm.
