Chamber Music PLUS bids farewell

Tucson, AZ - August 13, 2013

Dear Bill ,

I hope that the summer has been treating you with a goodly amount of fun, relaxation, and a recharging of batteries.

After nearly 40 seasons of producing concerts, 9 in Tucson, 7 in Scottsdale, 30+ in Hartford and another 15 at Quinnipiac University, at times running four different series simultaneously,  it is simply time for Sanda and I to disband Chamber Music PLUS as a producing organization and to recharge our batteries as well.

This decision is not based on:
* our  health (Sanda and I are truly doing fine)
* any lessening of the love of the art
* increasing difficulty of funding, marketing,  the nitty-gritty of such an enterprise.

What transpired is that without a second thought I automatically re-upped for another season as I have done for three plus decades. (Less two years ago when health prevented us from doing so).  And then, quite simply, I had no fire-in-the-belly to begin all the necessary steps ingrained in me to begin this season. At first I thought it was a bit of burn-out, but after a vacation with friends and family, a voice inside me told me that the time had come to begin a new chapter. Sanda began to bug me, nicely, that I better get a move on as she needed to order tickets and do all the sorts of things she does behind the scene, keeping things oiled and moving. Finally, I told her of my lack of desire to continue and she was OK with this. I waited another four or five weeks to make sure that this was my true feeling and it is so, ever more.

We never intended to start Chamber Music PLUS  here in AZ. Our move to Tucson was to be near family, to enjoy this beautiful city, to find a different rhythm to our lives,  and to run CMP only in Connecticut. We have not a single regret doing what we have done here, so many wonderful memories,  and I hope that the nine Tucson seasons have given equal pleasure to you as well.

It is not with a heavy heart or regret that I write you this but with a renewed sense of delight about the art itself.  Sanda and I have every plan to be connected to this community and are excited to see what develops. The thing I feared most was for us to begin repeating ourselves, to bring you anything less than the freshest, most inspired programs we could envision. Anything less would not be fair to you or us.

Thank you for your belief and trust in us and thank you for helping us bring the very best we could offer to you, our loyal and caring audience.

With deepest appreciation.

Yours in music,

Harry
