Subject: IFASA AUGUST 20 WRITERS' MEETING
The Independent Film Association of Southern Arizona ("IFASA") is dedicating its Tuesday, August 20 meeting to writers.
Without writers, actors would have nothing to say. Camera operators would have nothing to shoot. Directors would call "action" and absolutely nothing would happen. Writers are arguably the most important (and the least appreciated) collaborators on the filmmaking team.
So both to learn more about the process and as a tribute to writers, IFASA is putting together a panel discussion on Screenwriting. It will be an open structure with each panelist being free to discuss their own experience, what they believe makes good screenwriting, tips for writers, suggestions on how to market completed work, pitfalls to avoid, recommended reading, the relationship between actors and writers, or whatever topic they find compelling.
AND THERE WILL BE PRIZES. Cash money, movie tickets, books, DVDs, warm beer, pencils, paper and lots lots more (or at least a few other things). Some of the prizes will be given to whoever can answer questions about general movie trivia. (What kind of fruit did the godfather buy before he was shot?) But at least TEN PRIZES (Oh Boy!) will be given out to the person who can correctly identify who wrote particular films (or we will name a screenwriter and you will be asked to name a film that they wrote).
The meeting will be on Tuesday, August 20, at 7:00 PM at the Ward Six City Council Offices at 3202 East First Street in Tucson (It's just south of Speedway and just west of the Loft).
Additionally IFASA is putting together a list of Southern Arizona Screenwriters that we will distribute to our membership. If you would like to be on that list -- reply with your name, e-mail address, phone number. Resume is optional.
I look forward to seeing you next Tuesday.
