Truth and Impulse: an Intensive Text and Scenes Workshop in the Meisner Technique
The Sanford Meisner technique has become one of the most sought-after approaches in actor training, particularly in Europe where it is gaining rapid popularity. Its emphasis on truthfulness in the moment, combined with concrete techniques for arriving there, makes it a valuable and practical tool for the needs of the modern actor. The approach builds on itself in a meaningful, systematic way, and is a fresh, exciting way of working for both actors new to the technique and those wishing to hone their craft.
This three session workshop builds on the basic fundamentals of the Meisner technique and takes the work into text and scenes. It specifically focuses on bridging an actor's abilities to observe and respond impulsively with the text, and how to analyze a text in a way that facilitates an actor's ability to invest fully and live deeply within the given circumstances of a text.
Participants will work on scenes from the heaviest hitters in theatre and, as such, will be able to test the strength of the technique against some of the most notoriously challenging playwrites in the theatrical canon. Text work will include scenes from Harold Pinter, Anton Chekhov, David Mamet and Shakespeare.
This workshop is free to participants. Please note, registration for the workshop is still required; as well, though there will be a review session, eligible candidates should have some previous basic experience with the Meisner technique. Interested participants should e-mail with questions or to book a spot. Places are limited to 10 people. Classes take place on the following dates: December 16, 18 and 19 from 5:30-9:30pm. Details of the space, as well as what to bring, will be e-mailed upon acceptance into the course.
To book a spot, please e-mail Roycesparks@gmail.com.
