Arizona Repertory Singers celebrates 30th anniversary season with popular holiday concerts and innovative multimedia performances

TUCSON, Arizona — Arizona Repertory Singers (ARS), Tucson's premier vocal choral group, celebrates its 30th anniversary with a two-part season that begins with a celebration of holiday classics and finishes with the future of multimedia performance. Tickets are on sale now for the winter concerts, a popular Southern Arizona holiday tradition that often sell out. Music, art and technology aficionados can sign up to be alerted when the spring concert tickets are available.

ARS is a 45-voice ensemble that maintains its reputation for professional-quality choral music by requiring that all members, ages mid 20s to late 70s, pass a rigorous singing and sight-reading audition and attend weekly 3-hour rehearsals August through May. Known for its extensive and versatile repertoire, ARS has performed at more than 65 venues in Southern Arizona since 1984.

"I wanted to do something different and special to celebrate our 30th anniversary, because very few organizations of our type last that long," said ARS Music Director Jeffry A. Jahn. "We're primarily a cappella, but I chose two works that have orchestral accompaniment and vocal soloists to demonstrate the versatility and vocal depth that ARS has."

ARS will kickoff its 30th anniversary season with four December performances of Lift Up Your Voice. The concerts will feature J. S. Bach's Magnificat in D major, a stylistic Baroque-era masterpiece celebrated for its festive five-part scoring for mixed voices and orchestra, and Respighi's Laud to the Nativity, a charming yet rarely-performed pastoral cantata with woodwind ensemble that features the subtle harmonic nuance characteristic of early 20th century Italian music. Five vocal soloists and 20 professional musicians will provide rich musical accompaniment at the concerts.
