Tucson, Arizona—Pima Community College Jazz Ensemble under the direction of Mike Kuhn performs its end of semester concert featuring a popular array of standards in the big-band style. In the first half of the show PCC Jazz performs a tune by Antonio Carlos Jobim called "AGUA DE BEBER" arranged by lead trombonist Roger Wallace and sung by vocalist Rachel Ezonnaebi. The lead trumpet player, Kurt Thompson, performs a Maynard Ferguson tribute on two pieces, "DANNY BOY" and "THE SPIRIT OF ST. FREDERICK." The band also spotlights Count Basie with "SPLANKY" and "THE HEAT'S ON.”
The second half of the concert features Tucson's BIG BAND EXPRESS, led by Pete Swan. The band closes the show with it’s own five-song set.
Pima Community College Center for the Arts is located on the West Campus just west of downtown and I-10 on St. Mary’s Rd, which turns into Anklam Rd. Box office hours are Tuesday-Friday, noon to 5 p.m. and one hour prior to performance.
