Tucson, Arizona-- Pima Community College Music presents the Orchestra in concert. The holiday program features the music of Mozart, Bach, Mendelssohn, Brahms, Faure and Gershwin. Selections include the famous "Fingal's Cave Overture” by Felix Mendelssohn and "Fascinating Rhythm" by George Gershwin. Students Stacy Scheckel, violin, and Richelle Tewes, flute, perform solos in J. S. Bach's “Brandenburg Concerto #5.” Student Brandon Sutter, cello, performs a solo in Gabriel Faure's “Elegy” with Orchestra accompaniment.
The PCC Orchestra is made up of college students and community adults. Tentser came to America in 1990, after graduating from the highly recognized Russian Music Academy in Moscow, Russia. He conducted the production of the oratorio "Esther" with the Jill Wieck Singers and Orchestra in March 2009, in Tucson. He directs the PCC Orchestra, conducts Arizona Balalaika Orchestra and teaches piano and other music courses at the West and Desert Vista Campuses.
Pima Community College Center for the Arts is located on the West Campus just west of downtown and I-10 on St. Mary’s Rd, which turns into Anklam Rd. Box office hours are Tuesday-Friday, noon to 5 p.m. and one hour prior to performance.
