February 25, 2020 - 7:00pm to 8:30pm
VENUE: University of Arizona, Old Main - Silver & Sage Room
Hollywood and Political Films in the Age of Polarization, Presented by Dr. Bradley Schauer
In this volatile political climate, is it possible to make a movie about a politically-charged real-life event without alienating half of your potential audience? With recent films like Lone Survivor and Patriot’s Day, director Peter Berg believes he has found a way…but is his approach as apolitical as he claims? UA Film & Television scholar Dr. Bradley Schauer will both analyze how Berg’s documentary-style action films are constructed to be politically neutral and evaluate whether Berg succeeds in uniting the right and left. Reception immediately following lecture.
