FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Waypoint Theatre Company proudly presents “Cotton Patch Gospel”, the toe-tappin’, hand-clappin’ bluegrass musical by Tom Key and Russell Treyz that is deep fried faith at its best!  Set in a barn in contemporary Georgia, and featuring a live bluegrass band, this “greatest story ever re-told” seamlessly weaves elements of humor and poignant drama to create a joyful celebration of life and love…Southern style!  Based upon the book The Cotton Patch Version of Matthew and John by Koinonia Farm/Habitat for Humanity founder Clarence Jordan, the Gospel is reverently and jubilantly presented live on stage with five men playing 48 roles.  It is the final and perhaps best musical work of renowned songwriter, Harry Chapin (“Cat’s In The Cradle” and “Taxi”).

“Cotton Patch Gospel” features the award-winning musical talent of five guest artists from the Desert Bluegrass Association including Tim O’Connor, Rudy Cortese, Ed Davenport, John Jensen, and Greg Morton, with Waypoint regulars Matt Felzien, Frank Gates, Tynan Orenn, Marc Sandin, and Rich Weeks.  There will be a 20 minute pre-show performance by the band prior to each performance featuring bluegrass favorites. Directed by Melanie David, with musical direction by Amy Haggard-Schoolman.  All performances are at the ASDB-Berger Performing Arts Center - 1200 West Speedway, with parking in the west parking lot off of Yucca .Ticket information, venue directions/parking information with sound clips of songs, and Clarence Jordan’s audio recording link of why he was inspired to write the Cotton Patch Gospel versions may be found at the company’s website at www.waypoint-theatre.org/Shows.
