Subject: AUDITIONS - ARIZONA ONSTAGE PRODUCTIONS - TWO bold, great, exciting shows...

Arizona Onstage Productions, the multi-award winning professional music theater company (recently completing a sold-out critically acclaimed run of Sondheim's SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE) is announcing auditions for talented singer/actors for two groundbreaking musical shows:

LOST - A Pop Chamber Opera: We are looking for 11 people who can sight read (or really close!)  a hand-written score and be versatile in every way - to be a part of this daring music theater production that crosses many boundaries in 'conventional' musical theater - LOST is the story of Hansel and Gretel - and their scary adventures in the woods, meeting the evil witch Mamba who lives off the blood and organs of youth..  an interpretation set in Tennessee's Great Smoky Mountains...  Arizona Onstage Productions is the first company to produce this show outside of the New York Inverse Theater run.

LOST was written by Tucson native Jessica Grace Wing.  The show was a huge hit at the New York Fringe Festival, and is the only Fringe Festival work ever recorded on film from the prestigious Lincoln Center Theater Library for Performing Arts - Ms. Wing never even heard a run through as she died five days before her 32nd birthday from colon cancer and three weeks before it opened. The reviews were glowing, including raves from The New Yorker, The New York Times, and TIMEOUT New York.

AUDITIONS FOR LOST -

Tentatively scheduled for August 2nd from 4pm on by appointment only. Please bring a legit and a "pop" ballad  - no more than 16 bars - have the music marked for the pianist.  Make sure that your selection covers the most challenging areas of your voice.  We are nice.  It is better to crack than to hold back...  Performance dates:

October 30th - November 2nd at Zuzi Theater.

Ok, now!  Let us go far away from George and LOST, and HAVE FUN!

Arizona Onstage Productions is the first 'outside' company to receive the rights for the ever-popular, 25 years and going strong, musical parody FORBIDDEN BROADWAY.

I know this email is long.  It is about to get longer.  Our best bet to see what this great parody musical spoof is about is to go to their official web at www.forbiddenbroadway.com  - we are tallkin' thirty shows trashed in 90 minutes.  I am in heaven...

No show or star is left behind as we slam the singers, performers, composers and EVERYTHING dealing with hits starting from the sweet ANNIE, who is now 30 and cannot get a job to save her life, plus visiting classics like Les Miz and CATS after their box office power is gone - "at the end of the show you're another day older.."  "Touch me - it's so easy to be me..."  and of course PHANTOM, THE LION KING, WICKED, and over 30 other well-noted shows.  The original creators: Gerard Alessandrini and Phillip George (good High School friends of mine back in Texas) will be there to help sculpt the definitive licensed production of this show...

The email gets longer:

To audition for FORBIDDEN BROADWAY - you need to 'channel' at least some of the following - we don't care what sex you are...

Carol Channing, Chita Rivera, Rita Moreno, Ethel Merman, Julie Andrews, Liza/Judy, Michael Crawford, Patti LuPone, Mandy Patinken, Streisand, Sarah Brightman, Harvey Fierstein, the cast of RENT... to name a few.  We need to see not only correct notes, but body language, smart cuts in your music, and your parody is going to be well noted.  This entire show is about slamming our stars...

FORBIDDEN BROADWAY HITS TUCSON will play for a strong three weekend run in Tucson, as well as a great possibility of weekend runs in outlying areas. In that case, all travel/accommodations/food expenses will be covered.

We are first come/first booked for both shows auditions - and they will occur on the same day and time.  If you would like to audition, but are out of town, please let us know, and we will try to make your audition happen.

FOR ALL PERFORMERS WISHING TO BOOK AN AUDITION:

Please email azonstage@yahoo.com  - and if you have questions, please email us with them also.

AGAIN - to schedule an audition, please go to www.arizonaonstage.org  and let us know WHAT show you are auditioning for, as well as WHEN you can make the audition.  The auditions will be run very tightly.  If you miss your 5 minute slot, you will need to re-audition.  This is not only for the respect of the pianist, but the Artistic staff of Arizona Onstage Productions.  Please do not call for any other arrangements.  Email works just fine.

Many thanks, and THANK YOU for those brave crazy folk that actually READ this announcement...

Kevin Johnson

Artistic Director
