New Kiva Motions Puppetheatre

New Kiva Motions Puppetheatre, Arizona’s professional puppet theatre since 1980 is holding auditions for summer/fall 2008. Tis is a company that sees puppetry as a form of theatre, not merely as a craft of making interesting looking objects which we then move around. We perform a lot of original material and adaptations. Our orientation is towards adults as much as towards children. We also do a lot of multicultural and multilingual work. We schedule regular public performances on weekend afternoons at the Red Barn theater building Main and Speedway. 948 N. Main. We also do performances at various public and private events. You must have at least 3 of the following traits: democrat or further left politics, can think on your feet, wicked sense of humor, reliable, fairly able bodied, near 5’2” tall, previous acting or puppetry experience, ability to take direction. NO PRIMA DONNAS!! Ability to carry a tune and / or speak at least some Spanish is a +. EVERYTHING you have learned about acting will apply here! This is an acting job. It is a matter of learning to channel it through puppets and often we mix live actors and puppets. I will train the right person(s).

This is paid, part-time, occasional work. $ from the gate is divided among all who work (and paying the rent) on any given day. If you can help to get more people to attend performances, you will make more $. Some days chicken, some days feathers. When we perform at events such as the AZ- Son. Desert Museum’s Butterfly Festival, we are paid a set amount.

Rehearsal time is not paid.

Auditions are scheduled for Sunday July 6th at the Red Barn ( SE corner 1st ST. and Main). You DO need to let me know via email or phone that you are coming, You do not Need to have anything prepared. However if you WANT to show me a monologue or give me a resume, head shot etc., please do. Come dressed comfortably, and ready to play for a few hours. If you care to email me in advance, that is fine. I urge you to Google us to learn more about this company.

My name is Barbara, I’m the director. I have been involved in Theatre Arts for 40 years. I have been involved in puppetry for close to 37 years. I have done everything from the humblest of birthday parties, through Warner Bros. Motion Pictures. This company has been in Tucson for over 30 years.
