The second in the "Art Matters" series sponsored by The Rogue Theatre and
the Arizona Daily Star, is slated for 3:30 p.m. April 16.

This year, the discussion will center on "Why make art?". The catalyst for
the panel discussion and Q&A with the audience is a recent National
Endowment for the Arts study that found that ticket sales for performing
arts have fallen. Last year¹s discussion centered on the arts and arts
criticism.

The panel will be moderated by University of Arizona Dean of Fine Arts, Jory
Hancock.

Panel members are Anthropologist Dianna Repp; Stephen Wrentmore, Arizona
Theatre Company¹s new associate artistic director; Joseph McGrath,
co-founder of The Rogue Theatre; Joseph Rodgers, co-founder, Dancing in the
Streets; George Hanson, music director and conductor, Tucson Symphony
Orchestra; Lauren Rabb, curator at the UA Museum of Art; and Gabriel Ayala,
classical guitarist and recording artist. Ayala will also open the
discussion with a piece of music.

The event is free and open to the public. The Rogue Theatre is at 300 E.
University Blvd. Call Kathleen Allen, 573-4128, for more information.

Check next Friday¹s The Arts for a more in-depth look at the panel and the
discussion.
