ABOUT THE PLAY

A bittersweet comedy from one of Canada's most beloved playwrights. Bunny Best has met her unfortunate end after a mishap at a Gay Pride parade. Now her two sons, Kyle and Hamilton, have the task of arranging her funeral and caring for her most beloved companion, a troublesome Italian greyhound named Enzo. In the bustle of obituary-writing, eulogy-giving, and dog-sitting, sibling rivalry quickly reaches its peak and years of buried contentions surface. A witty and amusing tale of woe. You'll leave the theatre desperately wanting a dog!

The Best Brothers is staged by arrangement with Pam Winter, Gary Goddard Agency, www.garygoddardagency.com

ABOUT THE PLAYWRIGHT

Daniel MacIvor was born in Nova Scotia Canada in 1962 and is an actor, playwright and director. He attended Dalhousie University in Halifax and after he attended George Brown College in Toronto. He started the Da Da Kamera theatre company in Toronto and also did a series of solo shows. His plays include BEST BROTHERS, NEVER SWIM ALONE, MARION BRIDGE, A BEAUTIFUL VIEW, CUL-DE-SAC, HOUSE, HERE LIKES HENRY, and many others. In 2006 Macvlor won the Governor General’s Award Drama for his collection of plays I STILL LOVE YOU. With BEST BROTHERS Macvlor wanted to bring up death in a light hearted way and also what a dog is to a person with a dark yet gentle edge. Maclvor wrote the play as a journey for himself between the head and the heart as he wants to embrace the sentimental feelings that people face. He wanted to bring a heartwarming comedy to the stage that everyone could enjoy.
