Subject: Announcing our 10th Anniversary Season

Winding Road Theater Ensemble is pleased to announce three Main Stage productions and four Staged Readings, celebrating the Company's 10th anniversary of quality theater in Tucson.

Main Stage Productions
The 2018-2019 season opens with the Fall 2018 main stage production of Good People by David Lindsay-Abaire. Directed by the Ensemble's Co-Artistic Director Glen Coffman, this darkly hilarious play was nominated for two Tony awards in 2011, including Best Play and Best Leading Actress in a Play (Frances McDormand).

Our Winter 2018 production is Stupid F#!*ing Bird, a contemporary adaptation of Anton Chekhov's The Seagull written by Aaron Posner, co-founder of the Arden Theatre Company in Philadelphia. Directed by Co-Artistic Director Maria Caprile, the play takes a satirical spin on a theatrical classic, but brings out the essence of Chekhov's overall meaning about what it means to create art.

Ten Minute Play Festival
For our third main stage production, in the Spring of 2018, Winding Road is launching Eight 10s in Tucson, a festival of eight original 10-minute plays all staged in a single evening of theater. Modeled on the wildly successful 8 10s @8 festival in Santa Cruz, Calif., the festival's eight shows will be selected from submissions to the Company's 10-minute play script writing contest, open to playwrights in all 50 states. And, in line with Winding Road's commitment to local playwrights and young people in theater, we will stage one play each from an Arizona playwright and one from a Tucson-area student playwright (age 16 to 24). We'll announce contest details soon!

Winding Reads
Scheduled in between our main stage productions, the Company will  present "Winding Reads", a series of four full-length plays presented as staged readings at venues throughout the Tucson area.

The first reading, in September of 2018, will be of an original script by local playwright and Ensemble member emeritus Toni Press-Coffman, Consolation. In this play, a 21st Century Woman meets the unsung First Ladies of American history in an other-worldly evening of confrontation, contemplation and celebration.

The second reading will be It Can't Happen Here by Sinclair Lewis, adapted by Tony Taccone and Bennett S. Cohen, slated for November of 2018. Based on Lewis' eerily prescient 1935 novel, this play is a cautionary dark satire about the fragility of democracy and the ease with which fascism can take hold, even in the land of liberty

The third reading, to be staged in the Winter of 2019, is Chosen Child by local playwright and author Monica Bauer – an intergenerational family drama, played out over more than six decades, about mothers, memories, and the ties that may (or may not) bind.

The fourth and final reading will be a Special Benefit performance, scheduled for the Spring of 2018 (details to be announced).

Thank you for supporting live theater in Tucson - we are excited to bring you our most ambitious season yet!
