UA’s Educational Theatre Company to perform ‘The Deaf Duckling.’

Dates & Times: October 2 & 3 at 7:00 p.m., October 4 at 1:30 p.m.

Place: Marroney Theatre on the UA campus located near the southeast corner of Park Avenue and Speedway Boulevard.

General Admission: All seats are $4.  No children under 5, babies, or strollers in the theatre please.

Performance Information: The School of Theatre Arts etc…Educational Theatre Company presents “The Deaf Duckling,” by Aditi Brennan Kapil in collaboration with Nic Zapko, directed by Christina Culligan.

Based on the traditional children’s tale “The Ugly Duckling,” “The Deaf Duckling” tells the story of Sam, a duckling who was born deaf and is trying to find her place in the world.  Through the mysterious Mr. Swan, Sam discovers that there is a deaf culture with its own language, American Sign Language (ASL).  Sam must then convince her mother to let her learn ASL so she can live in the deaf world.  This production will be told in a combination of spoken English and ASL.

etc...Educational Theatre Company was created to give students in the BFA Theatre Education program the opportunity to produce plays and educational programs for young audiences. The company is committed to producing quality scripts and developing new plays for young audiences. While the School of Theatre Arts faculty serve as advisors for etc..., productions are student-directed, designed and acted. The productions are performed first on campus and then toured to area schools during the fall semester of the academic year.

Parking: Theatregoers may park in the Park Avenue Garage, located on Park Ave. just north of Speedway Blvd.  For weekday evening performances, you can now pre-pay for parking.  Monday through Friday, 5 p.m. to midnight, take your parking ticket immediately to the garage cashier after parking.  Cashier is located on the east side of the main level.  Parking fee will be $3 (cash only).  After the performance, insert the parking ticket at the gate to exit.  Saturday and Sunday there is no charge to park.
