Tucson: CORRECTION - Public Hearing, Tucson Center for the Performing Arts

Dear TTA List Members,

A TTA member has provided the correct address for the hearing.  See below.  Thank you Dave and Dolly.

When I couldn't find West Commerce Loop on Mapquest, I did some Googling. The correct address for the Sentinel Building should be 320 North Commerce Park Loop, Tucson, 85726.

Subject: Public Hearing, Tucson Center for the Performing Arts

The entire Tucson City Council supports applying for $1.6 million from the federal American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) to continuing the restoration of the Center for the Performing Arts, located at 6th Avenue and 14th Street. Built in the 1920s as the All Saints Church, the building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and has been the site of historic moments in Tucson's history. For many years, Tucson's Parks and Recreation Department managed it in partnership with local arts groups. In 2004, Pima County voters approved $668,000 in funds to complete the first phase of the restoration, which was accomplished in 2008.

A public hearing will be held Thursday, May 28 at 5:30pm at the Sentinel Building, 320 W. Commerce Loop (written comments are accepted until June 1). Parks and Recreation plans to work collaboratively with the Tucson Pima Arts Council, the Downtown Tucson Partnership and the Downtown Performing Arts Facilities Management Working Group to create a business and action plan. This public hearing is for the purpose of showing the federal government that we care about arts, culture and historic preservation in Tucson. Please attend and be prepared to speak about the importance of this venue to the performing arts in Tucson. Theater groups, dance companies and anyone who is a supporter of the arts is urged to come out and lend your voice to this cause.
