Tucson: Fox Theatre Summer Children's Program

Fox Tucson Theatre Announces 3rd Annual

Summer Children’s Program

(TUCSON, AZ) April20, 2009 – The Fox Tucson Theatre is pleased to announce the details of its third annual summer program for children and families. This year, the theatre will host a series of nine (9) Saturday afternoon events from 1-3pm. The program will feature vintage movie serials from the 1930’s along with classic cartoons from the Warner Brothers archive.

The serials, “The Wolf Dog” starring Rin Tin Tin Jr. (1933) “The Undersea Kingdom” with Ray “Crash” Corrigan (1936) and “The Green Archer” (1940) all played at the Fox during the Mickey Mouse Club at the theatre when originally issued. They will be presented in blocks of four chapters per Saturday, with one serial being screened per month (June, July & August).

Guest programmer Herb Stratford, the founder and former executive director of the Fox Tucson Theatre Foundation created the series.

“I had always wanted to show these great serials again on the Fox screen” said Stratford. “This is where some of the most popular films of our time, “Star Wars” and “Raiders of the Lost Ark” have their origin  - the Saturday morning serial”.

“I hope we can introduce a new generation to these classics” said Stratford.

During the July screenings, the Tucson Children’s Museum will assist with craft projects related to the serials in the theatre lobby.

Ticket prices for the screenings are $5 per person. Please visit the Fox’s website at www.foxtucsontheatre.org for more information.
