Tucson, AZ--Pima Community College Music presents a solo Classical Guitar recital featuring faculty Ben McCartney showcasing interpretations of well-known works from various stylistic periods and geographic regions. Program selections include works by Spanish composers Fernando Sor (1778-1839), Joaquin Turina (1882-1902), Isaac Albéniz (1860-1909); Paraguayan composer Augustîn Barrios Mangoré (1885-1944); German composer Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750); and Japanese composer Yuquijiro Yocoh (1925-).

McCartney has performed as a soloist and chamber musician throughout the western hemisphere, including Brazil, Cuba, Venezuela and the continental United States. He has won prizes in several solo guitar competitions—the Ralph Stevens Solo Guitar Competition (2000), the Norman Sholin Solo Guitar Competition (2001), and was a finalist in the Walnut Valley Solo Fingerstyle Competition (2003). McCartney is the director and instructor of the guitar studies program at Pima Community College. He also teaches guitar at his private studio in Tucson. McCartney has earned an international reputation as a publisher of new editions of classical music, instructional texts and arrangements for solo guitar. Some of his publications will be available for purchase at the performance.
