A brilliant comedy about desperate housewives, this is Noël Coward at his best – sharp, witty and utterly sophisticated. Julia and Jane are the best of friends. Both are married to loving (if slightly dull) husbands, and both have a secret past – an affair with a dashing Frenchman named Maurice. Now, Maurice is back in town, and the two embark on an evening of lusty anticipation and hilarious inebriation as they await his arrival. The 1925 London premiere starred the notorious Tallulah Bankhead.

 

 

ABOUT THE PLAYWRIGHT

Noël Coward - BLITHE SPIRIT, PRIVATE LIVES, HAY FEVER, etc. Parodied, pilloried, immortalized, and adored, Noel Coward was the twentieth century’s most visible emblem of sophistication. His playwriting, composing, prose, verse, and painting exhibited a style that was immediately recognizable, most especially in the image of the man himself: the dressing gown worn with a swish, the cigarette in an ivory holder, the cocktails and laughter. Of course, like any modern pop start, that was an image created by Coward to market his work. More than a hundred years after his birth, it is safe to say that his was one of the great marketing campaigns of the century. (Philip Hoare)

 

ABOUT THE ARTISTS

Chris Wilken (Director) - has directed over fifty productions in and around Tucson for many Theatre companies including Childsplay of Tempe and Arizona Repertory Theatre at the University of Arizona. He is a founding member of Borderlands Theatre Company, serving as Associate Artistic Director for many years. Chris served as a faculty instructor in the Theatre Arts Program at PCC for almost 2 decades. Previous directing credits with LTW include CLOUD 9 and THE FOREIGNER.

 

Jodi Ajanovic - originally hails for the Midwest where she received her BFA in Theatre Performance from Indiana State University. Upon graduation, she was the proud recipient of the Tisch-Capson Dramatic Writing fellowship from New York University and the Glenville Performance fellowship from the Oxford Dramatic Society. After her studies, Jodi performed with the Actors Theatre of Louisville, the Edyvena Repertory Theatre, the Phoenix Theatre and the Bunbury Threatre, to name a few. Jodi landed in Tucson and is excited to be in her seventh season with LTW, some of her favorite roles include Rose in DANCING AT LUGHNASA, Sybil in PRIVATE LIVES, Helen in BABY WITH THE BATHWATER and Miss Skillon in SEE HOW THEY RUN, for which she was nominated for a MAC award by the Arizona Daily Star. She has played on the Etcetera Stage in THE BALTIMORE WALTZ and written THE EXISTENCE OF FAIRIES for the All Together Theatre here at LTW.

 

Cliff Madison - hails from Mesa, Arizona and grew up in Casa Grande before coming to Tucson to study theatre at Pima Community College. He was last seen on the mainstage at Live Theatre Workshop in DEATH AND THE MAIDEN, RECKLESS, THE DINNER PARTY, A THOUSAND CLOWNS, THE UNEXPECTED GUEST and THE MYSTERY OF IRMA VEP, to name a few. Cliff also recently performed in the Winding Road Theater Ensemble production of TALLEY’S FOLLY and Borderlands’ 26 MILES.

 

Toni Press-Coffman - has performed in Tucson as Isabella Bird (TOP GIRLS), Katherine (A PERFECT GANESH), Bo (LAST NIGHT OF BALLYHOO), Dorothy (INSPECTING CAROL), Fanny (ON THE VERGE or THE GEOGRAPHY OF YEARNING), Katerina (ANTON IN SHOW BUSINESS), Flo (PICNIC) and Aunt Sally (FIFTH OF JULY). Toni is a founding member of Winding Road Theatre Ensemble, which recently produced a developmental workshop of her new play UNITED. Toni was last seen with Etcetera as Garlic Press in ROBOTS VS. FAKE ROBOTS and directed the late-night ensemble’s production of WHITE PEOPLE. Later this season, Etcetera will produce Toni’s play TOUCH.

 

Maria Caprile - Is a recent transplant from Spokane, Washington, where she is a resident artist of Interplayers Theatre. She has been seen in Interplayers' productions THE PRICE (Esther) and ON GOLDEN POND (Ethel). She is also the director of Interplayers' productions of THE RECEPTIONIST, PRIVILEGE, ELEEMOSYNARY and THE GRADUATE. Maria was nominated for a Spokie for her direction of THE CHRISTMAS SCHOONER for nationally acclaimed Spokane Civic Theatre. She has appeared in many Spokane Civic Theatre productions, including THE MUSIC MAN (Mrs. Shinn), THE LARAMIE PROJECT (multiple roles), LAST OF THE RED HOT LOVERS (Elaine) and GYPSY (Tessie Tura) where she played opposite Oscar and Emmy award winning actress Patty Duke. Maria is the author of the original play THE LITTLE MERMAID: A TALE OF ALOHA, produced by Spokane Children's Theatre. Film credits include 'Tiki" and 'Lonely Hearts.' This is her first appearance at LTW. 

 

Rick Shipman - has been acting for 14 years and recently moved to Tucson from Phoenix. Since coming to Tucson Rick has appeared in many local performances, most recently in LTW’s mainstage productions of THE FOREIGNER, HALF & HALF, THE DINNER PARTY, DON’T DRESS FOR DINNER and A THOUSAND CLOWNS. He has also been seen in Tucson with Arizona Repetory Theatre in RUM AND COKE and CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF, with The Rogue Theatre in THE GOAT and RED NOSES, as Greg in Studio Connections’ SYLVIA and as Tom in Beowulf Alley’s DINNER WITH FRIENDS.

 

Eric Anson - previously appeared on the ETCETERA stage in PERSEPHONE OR SLOW TIME (Giuseppe), THE BOOK OF LIZ (Reverend Tollhouse), ROBOTS VS. FAKE ROBOTS (Knee Pad), KILLER JOE (Joe), Richard O’Brien’s THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW (Rocky Horror), THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST (John), BUG (Jerry) and THE BALTIMORE WALTZ (The Third Man). A regular on the mainstage at LTW, you may have also seen Eric in THE DINNER PARTY, DON’T DRESS FOR DINNER, WIFE BEGINS AT FORTY, THE UNEXPECTED GUEST, PRIVATE LIVES and SEE HOW THEY RUN, to name a few.

 

Patrick Burke - Patrick was last seen as Owen the Live Theatre Workshop's production of the THE FOREIGNER by Larry Shue. After being absent from the stage for over ten years, Patrick is honored to be performing with LTW again.
