Subject: Call for Playwrights

This is an invitation to playwrights to write
overnight for Tucson's Sixth Annual Play-in-a-Day,
sponsored by Old Pueblo Playwrights (OPP).

This year's event is scheduled for Friday 5/9 &
Saturday 5/10 at the Cabaret Theater at the Temple of
Music & Art, 330 S. Scott Avenue, peformance times at
7:30 p.m.

We have nine playwrights chosen and three slots
available.

On Friday night at 7:30 p.m. staged readings of four
"showcase" scripts by OPP members will be presented to
an audience, who will subsequently choose three props
and one line of dialogue to be used in each play
written overnight.  At the end of the evening, the
twelve playwrights will be randomly paired and adjourn
to one of the pre-selected "host" houses to create a
12
minute play.

The scripts will be collected no later than 6 a.m on
Saturday 5/10.  At 8 a.m. six directors will be
randomly assigned to the scripts and will cast actors
from the open call at 9 a.m.  Plays will be rehearsed
during the day and staged readings of the overnight
scripts will be presented to an audience on Saturday
night.

An Audience Award and a Judges' Award of $150 each
will be shared by the playwrights, director & actors.
In 2006 the same script won both awards.

This is an exciting, adrenalin-charged event.  Please
contact Richard Chaney, OPP Secretary & Play-in-a-Day
chairperson (623-8234 or orlando132000@yahoo.com) if
you are interested in participating.
