..One family's story of determination and destiny, and a boy who set out to achieve the impossible...

Imagine a high quality live production for families that is not only inspirational, but is truly affordable.  THE ASTRONAUT FARMWORKER is based on the true story of the humble beginnings of astronaut José Hernández.

Pepito is the son migrant farmworkers who traveled back and forth between California and Mexico each year to earn a living. He struggled in school because he had difficulty understanding English, and moving to different locations made it hard to make friends. Then one day Pepito watched the Apollo 11 land on the moon and he decided that he wanted to be an astronaut. He began to look at the world and see the possibilities, not the roadblocks. The same is true for his teacher Ms. Young, who dared to advocate for Pepito's dream, and with her help he made a commitment to do well in school and take the steps to someday becoming an astronaut.

Director Nugent remarks, "Every little girl and boy should have big dreams. If a young migrant farmworker can tell his father that someday he will learn to fly, be an astronaut and touch the stars in the sky; then the message to our audience is to believe anything is possible. Listen to your heart and reach for the stars!"

Meet the playwright José Cruz González after the Sat., Sept. 23, 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. performances.
