UA's I Dream in Widescreen Grows & Gains Industry Support

 

I Dream in Widescreen

Tucson, Arizona — I Dream in Widescreen: BFA Thesis Films from The University of Arizona School of Theatre, Film & Television, will return this year to the Fox Tucson Theatre on Saturday, May 11, at 7:00pm. Over 1,000 people are expected to attend this popular film screening of UA thesis films, featuring international documentaries, rock operas, music videos, and inventive romantic comedies. Past films from the UA Film and Television program have gone on to major film festivals such as Sundance.

This year's BFA thesis film competition will be judged by Claudette Godfrey, the Short Film Programmer for the South by Southwest Film Festival in Austin, Texas; Brenda Lhormer, Director, Napa Valley Film Festival; and Kathleen McInnis, Film Curator and Director of Industry Programming for the Palm Springs ShortsFest.

The Los Angeles postproduction facility, FotoKem, will return for the third time as I Dream in Widescreen's lead sponsor, providing the FotoKem New Filmmaker Award of $5,000 in film services by FotoKem to the winning thesis film director to support his or her next film production.

"FotoKem appreciates the opportunity to partner with The University of Arizona and its filmmakers. These artists and craftsmen represent the storytellers that will power the media of tomorrow with their drive and vision," said FotoKem's Director of Student Services Walt Rose, who will be traveling from Los Angeles to attend the event and present the award to the winning student director.

Entertainment Partners, the creator of Movie Magic Budgeting and Scheduling, continues its support into the second year, sponsoring I Dream in Widescreen with two awards recognizing the work of University of Arizona student producers.

"EP is thrilled to be supporting talented University of Arizona students again this year," said EP's Suzanne Parker. "By providing our Movie Magic Scheduling and Budgeting software to the winners, we hope to help these students learn the tools they will need to flourish in the entertainment industry."

The Hanson Film Institute will recognize the work of UA student production designers on a thesis film with the Hanson Film Institute Award for Best Production Design, to be juried by Joe Garrity, production designer of numerous films and television shows (Best in Show, For Your Consideration and Sunshine Cleaning), and who is the Senior Filmmaker-in-Residence for the American Film Institute Conservatory.

I Dream In Widescreen is made possible with support from UA School of Theatre, Film & Television's Student Differential Tuition Funds, the UA Hanson Film Institute, the UA Student Faculty-Interaction Program, The Loft Cinema, and Ricoh.

Graduates from the UA Film program are working across the Film and Television industry in writing, directing, development, production, talent management, cinematography and special effects. Other graduates gain admission to prestigious, professional programs, such as the American Film Institute Conservatory. Notable alumni include producer Scott Stuber, 20th Century Fox's John Kilkenny, and director Chris Eyre (Smoke Signals).
