CIVIL WAR HISTORY GETS A SECOND LOOK

By Chuck Graham, TucsonStage.com

Among folks in the southern states, re-enacting famous Civil War battles is serious business. The Winding Road Theatre Ensemble takes a closer look in presenting the world premiere of New York playwright Jessica Dickey’s “Row After Row.”

Preview night is 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 18, opening at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 19, and continuing through May 5 at Beowulf Alley Theatre, 11 S. Sixth Ave.

In the play, two civil war re-enactors arrive for their annual Gettysburg beer only to find a stranger sitting at their table, and their time-honored traditions are called into question as time shifts between past and present.

Glen Coffman is directing a cast of Michael Gifford, Steve Wood and Emilee Foster.

Regular performances are 7:30 p.m.

Fridays-Saturdays, 2 p.m. Sundays, through May 5, always at Beowulf Alley Theatre, 11 S. Sixth Ave. Tickets are $20 general admission ($15 preview night). For details and reservations, 520-401-3626, www.windingroadtheater.org
