The Laramie Project: Auditions Monday August 17th and Tuesday August 18th

8 men - 4 women  Open casting

Santa Cruz Shoestring Players will present “The Laramie Project” in October.  We recruit actors (and those who want to try acting) from a wide area – Oro Valley to Tubac, Vail to the reservations. Rehearsals and performances are in Green Valley at the newly-built Pima County Community Performing Arts Center.

The Laramie Project is a docudrama addressing the reality of hate crimes. The playwrights interviewed over 200 people in the year following Matthew Shepard’s death, then edited the work down to 75 voices. The result is a balanced portrayal of how this community coped with the event and its healing process.  Many voices and viewpoints are represented.  Each of the actors will play multiple roles.

“I feel that the success of this play is dependent upon recruiting actors with a variety of ages and lifestyles,” says DD Jay, the Director.

Auditions will be held August 17th and 18th at 6:30pm, 1250 W Continental Road, Green Valley (I-19, Exit 62) – a 1-minute memorized monologue is requested but not mandatory. Rehearsals are at 6:30pm on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.  The show will run October 7th – 10th
