Winners Announced in New One Act Play Festival

 

Tucson, AZ-The Community Players, Tucson's premiere "little" theatre company announced the winners of the First Annual New One Act Play Festival.  The competition was open to only writers from Arizona, the play had to be between 30 and 45 minutes long, and had to be unpublished and un-produced.  "The number of submission we received was quite surprising seeing it was only the first year of the competition," said Scott Berg, president of the board of The Community Players, "and the quality of the work was amazing."  Out of the submissions received, the top three scoring playwrights will be rewarded by having the world premiere of their one act play produced and staged by The Community Players.  The performance dates are July 8-17, 2016.

 

"Even with the competition as strong as it was," added Barb Tobiasson, board secretary for the group, "based on the judges scores, there were three that rose to the top of the pack."  The submissions were judged on four major criteria; plot, character development, dialogue and overall writing quality.  The style and content were up to the writers imagination.  "We look forward to the festival growing with time," Berg added, "This competition is a great way for us to showcase some very talented people in our community, who very seldom receive the accolades they deserve.  We are thrilled to be able to do just that."

 

The winners of The Community Players First Annual New One Act Play Festival are:

 

                                         Leslie Powell for her script "Free"

                                         Gavin Kaynor for his script "Interior Dialogues"

                                         Vince Flynn for his script "Damascus"

 

These shows will be put together and made into an evening of one acts running July 8-17, 2016 with performances on Friday and Saturday nights at 7:30pm and Sundays at 2:00pm.  The Community Playhouse is located at 1881 N.
