AN EVENING WITH MARTIN SHORT | FOX CHASING RAINBOWS GALA
The Tony and Emmy Award-winning actor brings to life some of his most beloved characters and performs uproarious skits complete with songs, dance and impersonations.
We are so excited to have Martin Short headline this wonderful evening - our Join the festivities as a VIP for a fun-filled evening of great music and community gaiety as we honor our past and toast the exciting things to come at The Fox.
Martin Short is a comedy icon, a star of movies and television, a talk show host, a Tony award-winning stage performer and a creator of an endless series of memorable characters including Ed Grimley and Jiminy Glick. An Evening with Martin Short is a comedy/variety show that includes storytelling, sketch comedy, music, a special appearance by Short’s alter ego Jiminy Glick and more.
Short first gained public attention as one of the stars of the extremely popular sketch comedy shows SCTV and Saturday Night Live. Following the success, he went on to star in a string of hit films, such as The Three Amigos (filmed on location at Old Tucson Studios), The Father of the Bride, Innerspace, Jungle 2 Jungle, Mars Attacks!, and many others.
The Chasing Rainbows Gala is the signature fundraising event for the Fox Tucson Theatre. Known to be the only example of a 1930’s Southwestern Art Deco Movie Palace, the Fox has been meticulously renovated, restored and acoustically updated. Each year the Fox Tucson Theatre Foundation utilizes this event to recognize individuals who enrich our community. This year, the Foundation has named as the 2014 Honorary Co-Chairs of the Chasing Rainbows Gala, and will honor with the 3rd Annual Downtown Leadership Award. This award honors those who by their words and actions have demonstrated a real commitment to building an exciting and vibrant downtown Tucson.
The MGM Musical “Chasing Rainbows” was on the playbill and more than 3,000 excited filmgoers were on hand to laugh with Jack Benny and hear a catchy new tune called for the first time.
Our Annual Gala is a true celebration of that opening night many years ago. Since re-opening to the public in 2006 (after a 30 year absence and a 6 year, $14 million renovation), the Fox Tucson Theatre has re-established it’s place as the “crown jewel” of downtown Tucson’s resurgence. We hope you’ll join us for another fun-filled evening!
Past Gala performers include Judy Collins, Steve Winwood, and Vince Gill.
