Subject: Truth and Impulse: an Intensive Introduction to the Sanford Meisner Technique

The Sanford Meisner technique has become one of the most sought-after approaches in actor training, particularly in Europe where it is gaining rapid popularity. Its emphasis on truthfulness in the moment, combined with concrete techniques for arriving there, make it a valuable and practical tool for the needs of the modern actor. The approach builds on itself in a meaningful, systematic way, and is a fresh, exciting way of working for both actors new to the technique and those wishing to hone their craft.

This workshop focuses on introducing the basic concepts of Meisner work, firstly experiencing what it means to live truthfully. The work quickly progresses to a strong focus on observing and responding, impulses, isolating the moment, working from moment-to-moment, living in the given circumstances and concludes with text analysis. At the end of the workshop, participants will not only have flexed and worked their acting muscles, but will also be able have a grasp of how to use the technique in their own practice.

This workshop is free to participants. Please note, registration for the workshop is still required. Interested participants should e-mail with questions or to book a spot. Places are limited to 12 people. Classes take place on the following dates: March 23 and 24, 4-9pm, and March 26 and 27 , from 5:30-9:30pm. Participants interested but not able to attend all the classes should also e-mail with their situation. Details of the space, as well as what to bring, will be e-mailed upon acceptance into the course.
