ABOUT THE PLAYWRIGHT

 

Ivan Menchell Plays: BONNIE & CLYDE (book), THE CEMETERY CLUB, SMILING THROUGH, THE PRINCE & THE PAUPER (book), THE SURPRISE PARTY. For the screen, Menchell wrote an adaptation of THE CEMETERY CLUB starring Ellen Burstyn, and is co-writer of Samuel Goldwyn's NAPOLEON. An Emmy-nominated television writer, he created the critically acclaimed Showtime series Bedtime and served as writer/co-executive producer on Disney Channel's Phil of the Future and Jonas, starring the Jonas Brothers. He was a writer/producer on the long-running CBS comedy The Nanny and the FOX dramatic series Time of Your Life starring Jennifer Love Hewitt. Ivan is the recipent of a Fulbright Fellowship for his playwriting and a graduate of the Yale School of Drama.

 

ABOUT THE ARTISTS

 

Sheldon Metz (Director) - has directed theatre for 51 years in Chicago, Los Angeles, and Tucson. He was founder and Executive Director of A.C.C.T., too! - in Los Angeles; Director of the West Coast Theatre Conference (LA); and The Theatre Conference (NY). He was an Associate Artistic Director and Producing Director for the Playwrights’ Kitchen Ensemble, under Dan Lauria. In Los Angeles, Metz won fourteen directing awards and 20 set design awards. In Tucson, he’s directed  PROOF!, THE BEAUTY QUEEN OF LEENANE, FRONTING THE ORDER and THE RADIUM GIRLS. For LTW, he’s helmed OLEANNA and last fall’s COLLECTED STORIES. For ChamberMusic Plus - Southwest, A RARE PATTERN, starring Margo Kidder. He created BATC’s Old Time Radio Theatre. He is the Founder/Artistic Director for the new Tucson Alliance of Dramatic Artists (TADA!), dedicated to bringing new scripts to the stage. As co-founder of Murder Mayhem, he writes and directs murder mystery dinner shows for The Hotel Congress, and he has created a new major city-wide event for 2014, Mardi Gras -Tucson.  Sheldon thanks his wife Linda who allows him to do this. 

 

Peg Peterson (Doris) - has been active in the Tucson theatre community for over a decade, both onstage and off, as actor, costumer, and sometime prop master. She recently played the role of Mattie Fae in Winding Road Theatre Ensemble’s acclaimed production of AUGUST: OSAGE COUNTY and was last seen on LTW’s stage as Kate Keller in ALL MY SONS. She won an AZ Daily Star MAC nomination for her portrayal of Kimberly (Peg’s favorite role ever) in the 2011 Etcetera production of KIMBERLY AKIMBO. Other favorites are BROADWAY BOUND, STEEL MAGNOLIAS, ARSENIC AND OLD LACE and PICNIC, to name a few. She hopes you enjoy seeing this play half as much as she is enjoying being in it!

 

Michael Woodson (Sam) - has previously appeared with Live Theatre Workshop in 18 productions over the past 7 years. Most recently, he was Jack McCullough in REGRETS ONLY, Bradley in THE COCKTAIL HOUR, Philip the philatelist in MAURITIUS and Freddie Filmore in IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE. His all-time favorite shows include THE SISTERS ROSENSWEIG, A THOUSAND CLOWNS, KILLER JOE, THE CLEAN HOUSE, and MOON OVER BUFFALO. Michael has also perfomed with Arizona Theatre Company, The Invisible Theatre, The Wilde Playhouse, and Stray Theatre. A member of the Screen Actor’s Guild, he was seen in the television series Legend and The Young Riders as well as the television movies Gunsmoke III, To the Last Man, and Geronimo. Commercial work includes Rawlings Radar Ball, The Arizona Lottery, and Bulls Eye BBQ Sauce. In 2008, Michael received the LTW Best Actor Ovation Award for his portrayal of George Hay in MOON OVER BUFFALO.

 

Roxanne Harley (Lucille) - previously appeared in LTW’s productions of THE FOREIGNER and THE SEVEN YEAR ITCH, and she played Gertrude in Etcetera’s production of HAMLET. She has performed with many Tucson theatre companies. Some of her favorites include WHITE TIE BALL and BLIND DATE at Borderlands; SEASCAPE and HUMBLE BOY at Beowulf; THE BALCONY, THE DEAD, and THE GOOD WOMAN OF SETZUAN at The Rogue Theatre.

Renata Rauchen (Mildred) - has been in Tucson for 6 years and is involved in theatre and film. She is happy to perform at LTW once again. She has been involved with Festival Repertory Theatre, Red Barn Theatre, Fringe Festival, Beowulf Alley Theatre, Santa Cruz Shoestring Players, Old Pueblo Playwrights, Clean And Sober Theatre, Speak the Speech Theatre, WomanKraft, and Catalina Players. Renata has managed a theatre and directed plays, but her passion is performing onstage. She is happy to be part of this wonderful cast and crew! Enjoy the show!

 

Leah Kari (Ida) - began her community theatre acting career ten years ago in Santa Clarita, CA. Some of her diverse roles include: Mrs. DuBose in TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD, Yenta in FIDDLER ON THE ROOF, the Ghost of Christmas Future in CHRISTMAS CAROL, THE MUSICAL, George Bailey’s mother in IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE, Miss Shields in A CHRISTMAS STORY, and the narrator in WINNIE THE POOH AND THE HONEY TREE. Leah credits all her directors and fellow actors for training her and fostering her love of theatre.
