Tucson, Arizona--Pima Community College Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Mike Kuhn, features an 18-piece band performing styles and arrangement from the big-band repertoire on April 30. The spring concert spotlights several arrangements by lead trombonist Roger Wallace. Pima vocalist Rachel Ezonnaebi sings two of his arrangements—Duke Ellington's "Don't Get Around Much Anymore" and the old standard "At Last" which was popularized by Etta James. Kuhn performs a small group arrangement of his original piece titled "Love and Warr" dedicated to his soon-to-be wife, Anna. Other program selections are versions of "Wind Machine" by Sammy Nestico, "Chameleon" by Herbie Hancock, and "Groovin' Hard" by Don Menza. Several pieces are highlighted by band soloists.
In addition to instructing jazz ensemble, jazz improvisation, and popular music in America at PCC; Kuhn plays the jazz saxophone in a variety of venues around the greater Tucson area.
Pima Community College Center for the Arts is located on the West Campus just west of downtown and I-10 on St. Mary’s Rd, which turns into Anklam Rd. Box office hours are Tuesday-Friday, noon to 5 p.m. and one hour prior to performance.
