FREE SCREENING OF RESTORED LOST FILM DAUGHTER OF DAWN WITH SPECIAL GUEST SPEAKER, MUSIC COMPOSER DAVID YEAGLEY (COMANCHE NATION)

 

The UA Hanson Film Institute and the School of Music will present a free public screening of the lost and recently restored film Daughter of Dawn (1920) with special guest speaker Music Composer David Yeagley on Monday, February 18 at 5:30 PM in the Center for Creative Photography Auditorium. 

 

The film, which had been lost for nearly a century was rediscovered and restored by the Oklahoma Historical Society. Directed by Norbert Miles, Daughter of the Dawn is an adaptation of a traditonal Comanche story, filled with action and love. It is considered to be the first full length movie with all American Indian cast.

Music Composer David Yeagley was commissioned to create an original orchestral score for the film.  Yeagley, a UA alumnus will introudce the film and participate in an Q&A session with the audience after the screening.  

 

This event is presented in collaboration with The Center for the Study of American Ideals and Culture at the University of Arizona School of Music and is made possible with support from the American Indian Studies Program at the University of Arizona and the Arizona State Museum.
