Tucson, Arizona-- The PCC Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. Mark Nelson, performs the first concert of the spring semester. The program features “Tubby the Tuba” by Paul Tripp and George Kleinsinger. Guest tubist Windy Shaffer of Windy’s Winds (band instrument repair in Sahuarita) performs the solo tuba part with Jennifer Dawson as the narrator. Other works on the program include the rousing “Flashing Winds” by Jan Van der Roost and “Elegy for a Young American,” honoring the 50th anniversary of the assassination of John F. Kennedy, by Ronald Lo Presti. The band also performs “Toccata” by Girolamo Frescobaldi, “Three Revolutionary Marches” by Bedrich Smetana and the “Third Suite” by Robert Jager. The woodwind, brass and percussion small ensembles also perform.
Pima Community College Center for the Arts is located on the West Campus just west of downtown and I-10 on St. Mary’s Rd, which turns into Anklam Rd. Box office hours are Tuesday-Friday, noon to 5 p.m. and one hour prior to performance.
