Presbyterian Churches Combine to Present Arts Camp

Summer Arts Camp for children scheduled for June 17-21, 2013.

Tucson, Arizona — St John on the Desert Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and Christ Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) are collaborating to present Summer Arts Camp 2013 for children from first through seventh grades between Monday, June 17 and Friday, June 21, 2013. The camp will run from 9 am to 3 pm daily at St John on the Desert located at 2695 N. Houghton Road in Tucson, Arizona.

Pastor of St John and Camp Director Lesley Abrams was previously an award-winning Director of Children & Youth Ministries at Christ Presbyterian Church. In the last three years at Christ Presbyterian children have been learning about a host of art forms in a safe and joy-filled environment. This year’s combined camp at St John will feature exploration and learning about dance, moviemaking, music, acting, stagecraft, costumes, gardening, games and fun. The week will culminate in a Friday evening presentation of the play: Herbie and the Good News Garden.

Arts Camp 2013 tuition is $50 per child for the entire week’s offerings. (Additional children from the same family are $25.) There is some scholarship money available and there are a limited number of slots for preschool and kindergarten-aged siblings of children who are enrolling in Arts Camp.

Camp Director Abrams says, “Every year, I watch children experience the ‘WOW’ that happens when people collaborate to create art. Talented or not, the opportunity to play creatively is a gift all children should be given at some point in their lives. And if schools are not able to offer it, why not in the wide open space of summer?”

St John on the Desert Presbyterian Church and Christ Presbyterian Church are part of the Presbyterian Church (USA) and are two of twenty-nine churches within the Presbytery de Cristo encompassing Southern Arizona and the western edge of New Mexico.
