TIME TO FILL UP YOUR DANCE CARD

Tucson dancers, choreographers, teachers and dance students are gearing up to present some exciting and diverse dance festivals. The action kicks in beginning Sept. 19.



Up first is the TUCSON TANGO FALL FEST September 19-22 (classes & performances)

Observe internationally famous tango dancers, check out the sexy Tango shoes and attire in the lobby, and sign up for the beginner’s track at the Tango Fall Fest held at the Holiday Inn Holiday Inn Hotel and Suites, 4550 S. Palo Verde.

Running simultaneously is the TUCSON FLAMENCO FESTIVAL Sept.19-22 (outdoor performances/eating, classes) http://www.tucsonflamencofestival.com/

Head over to the Flamenco Festival right outside of Case Vincente, 375 S. Stone (downtown Tucson). Doors open at 8 pm Thursday-Saturday, and 2 and 6 pm on Sunday. There’s a free children’s Flamenco class Sunday at 1 pm.



October brings the MEDITERRANEAN NIGHTS FESTIVAL (Middle Eastern) October 4-6 (classes & performances). For details:

On Oct. 5 at 7 pm, treat yourself to an exotic extravaganza at the Berger Performing Arts Center, 1200 W Speedway, with special guest Mr. Belly Dance Frank Farinaro and the Mzekala Singers & Musicians.

Then comes everybody’s favorite event, TUCSON MEET YOURSELF, October 11-13 (food & dancing)

Ethnic Dancing and Cultural traditions from around the World are celebrated at this annual “Tucson Eat Yourself” (as the say) event. The festival will not disappoint those who enjoy a great polka and jig!



Wait there’s more! The DANCE FESTIVAL OF SOUTHERN ARIZONA is held  Oct.19-20 (classes & performances)

Those who love ballet, modern/contemporary, tap, jazz, and hip hop get their chance to see it all at the STEP to the Rhythm, DANCE to the Rhythm performance on Saturday evening, Oct.19, 7 pm, at University High School. It is being produced by the Arizona Dance Coalition ~ the same organization that produced three National TAP Dance Day Celebrations in Tucson (2009-11).  Performers will be announced on Sept.1. Tickets will be available at BrownPaperTickets.com. $15 in advance, $20 at the door. $10 for children under 12, seniors 65+, and military in advance, $15 at the door.

This time the Dance Festival encompasses all of Southern Arizona, offering dance classes to high school age students and older and dance instructors. The general public will get an opportunity to “sample” dance classes during this time through participating ADC members in the community who will be offering classes in Flamenco, Modern, Middle Eastern, Aerial Dance, Tango and more, at discounted rates.
