Call Sheet is the Independent Film Association of Southern Arizona's  electric newsletter identifying the Top Ten items of interest to actors and filmmakers in Southern Arizona.

 

1.  Blackwood -- IFASA Best Picture 2013.  Congratulations to Garrett Moldrem and Gerry Gilbert for Blackwood's win of the Independent Film Association of Southern Arizona's  Best Picture Award for 2013.

 

2.  Seeking Nominations for Best PA, Best Make Up, and Best Hair Awards.  The Independent Film Association of Southern Arizona is seeking nominations for its Best Production Assistant, Best Make Up Artist and Best Hair Stylist Awards for 2014.  Send the names and e-mail addresses of your nominees to IFASAList@gmail.com.  Winners will be announced at the Tuesday, January 7 IFASA Meeting at 7 PM at Gangplank (17 East Pennington) Tucson.

 

3.  Microcinema.  Exploded View Art and Microcinema.  197 East Toole in the Arts and Warehouse District.  Edgy and unorthodox.  OK maybe even heretical.  Anti-establishment. Trend setting not trend following. Rule breaking not . . . you get the idea.  Check it out on a night that you don't have curfew.

 

4.  The Loft.  Hitchcock Blondes.  Go to the Loft for seven Hitchcock films and the women who made them classics. The Loft.  A Tucson Classic.  3233 East Speedway.


5. Sedona Film Festival.  February 22 through March 2.  One of the most highly regarded festivals in the Southwest.sedonafilmfestival.org  

 

6.  Black Cherry Burlesque.  Friday night, January 3 at the Surly Wench Pub, 424 North 4th Avenue.  Tucson. A striptease spectacular.  The Black Cherry Burlesque.  What does this have to do with film?  Well, it is the type of thing that if you go -- you will want to take pictures.  Check it out.

 

7.  The Bennett Theatre Lab and Conservatory.  Was one of your new years resolutions to re-dedicate yourself to acting?  No better way than a class with Phil Bennett.  Yes, it is good.  Yes, it is the best.   Philipgbennett@yahoo.com.  theatrelabconservatory.com 

 

8.  Best On Screen Slap.  Win $100 for the best on screen slap. Bring your hand or your cheek.  Come with a partner or find one on set.  Following up on it's most successful on screen kiss contest -- at it's January 7 Meeting (7 PM Gangplank 17 East Pennington) IFASA will hold it's first On Screen Slap Contest.  We'll film it.  We'll post it. $100 cash money to the winning team.   Yes -- you have to be 18.  Yes -- you have to sign a release.  Don't look if you don't want to watch.

 

9.  Filmmaking Classes at Pima Community College.  There's still time to register for a filmmaking or acting classes at Pima Community College. Tell Dave Wing I said "Hello Dave."  Hop on it, because classes start on January 21.   

 

10.  Almost Famous.  The Almost Famous Film Festival (thea3f.net) has open registration for its 10th Annual 48 Hour Film Challenge to be held in February 2014.  Almost Famous is based out of Phoenix, but they make participation from Southern Arizona exceptionally easy. It's one of the most highly regarded 48 hour challenges in the nation.  Go tothea3f.net now for details.
