From the chorus line to punch lines…

Rita Rudner moved to New York at the age of 15 to become a dance on Broadway. She appeared in several show but it was while appearing in “Annie” she began exploring Manhattan comedy clubs.  She applied the same techniques to comedy that she had to dancing – spending hours studying recording of Jack Benny and bob Hope analyzing the construction of comedy.

She developed her trademark epigrammatic style and took a full-time leap from chorus lines to punch lines in the early 80’s.  Her first solo HBO special “Rita Rudner’s One Night Stand” was nominated for several awards as was her BBC television special which later appeared on A&E.

In 2000, Rita got a call from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.  They had a 6 week window in a theater before a show was arriving from Paris.   Would Rita like to fill in those 6 weeks with her husband producing?  Six weeks turned into 6 months.  Rita’s show became one of the hottest tickets in town. When the Paris show finally arrived, MGM built Rita her own 450 seat theater at its sister property New York New York.  Thirteen years and two moves later (each to a bigger venue) Rita now performs at the Venetian Hotel and Casino.

In 2003 Rita launched her own award winning syndicated TV show Ask Rita.  She has authored 4 books including two fiction novels and collaborates with her husband on made-for-tv movie scripts.
